KunjanPSD
Today was the first time, I saw Djokovic's age being the limiting factor. Carlos was just brutal, power in his serves and forehands was tremendous. Not to forget the control he has on the drop shots. I hate to admit it, but the top 3 era might not have many years left. Its only Novak left from top 3 and he did won the first 2 slams and lost here but a close match. I definitely expect him to win at least 2 more slams before he finally retires. From current generation, I don't think anyone today apart from Alcaraz could have defeated Novak.

Yeah, I don't see anyone other than Alcaraz who can beat him. But it was just a sight, I didn't expect, Djokovic stumbling. The powershot disparity was visible. I hope he comes back and absolutely smothers everyone.

Yeah, in the 2nd and 3rd set, his shots lacked any sort of edge and there were too many unforced errors as well.

Black_Hawk
But jokes apart... Federer retired. Nadal out of the scene and will retire next year. Djokovic dethroned tonight. My heart sank when Novak had the break opportunity in the 2nd game of the final set (he was 30-40 up with the break point) and failed to convert it. The ball landed into the net and then it was over. I knew that was the match, right there. Alcaraz didn't falter after that. This definitely marks and end of an era for me. Growing up watching the likes of Courier, Agassi, Sampras, Ivanisevic, Roddick, and many more and then of course the Big 3... very emotional moment indeed to see Novak lose. Such is the nature of sport. I really don't know if Novak will win another GS again but keeping my hopes alive because he will be definitely be playing a few more Slams. achilles
That was a good dance off. Unfolding like Spartacus' entrance in the arena, the new boy slaying the unbeatable Theokoles. Neither player sustained a high level at the same time for very long, though from set two to the fifth game of set three were magic. We knew that at his absolute peak, Alcaraz had the tools and skill to best Djokovic. What we saw in the first set is what Djokovic does so well, not let the other player play his game. But he didn't count on Alcaraz bouncing back stronger like that. I believe the tie-break and the following set, specially that brutal fifth game took a lot out of Djokovic. Alcaraz did not let up. The biggest factor then, really was that Djokovic simply didn't expect Alcaraz to play that well. As Uncle Chael says, the toughest time you have is when the fight is harder than you expected it to be. Djokovic would expect the fight now. Don't count him out. Black_Hawk
One of best ATP Finals last night! Another dog fight between Nole and Alcaraz right till the end. Nole looked gassed towards the middle of the match but summoned his inner BEAST and bested Alcaraz in the final set. Almost 4 hours of hardcore Tennis... I hope Novak recovers for the USO now. Highlights for those who missed the match as it was late into the night for us:

Black_Hawk
Sumit Nagal becomes the first Indian to beat a seeded player (Alexander Bublik - Seeded 31 at this AO) in a Men's Singles match at a Grand Slam since 1989... and that too in straight sets! It was a fantastic match to watch!! Of course Bublik just wasn't quite himself today but man was Nagal peaking or what! He had a bunch of Indians in the stands on Court 6 supporting him and he was on fire. Some of his shots were remarkable today. Onto R2 now... Black_Hawk
Sumit Nagal has a R2 match tomorrow at 8AM (IST) vs China's unseeded player Junsheng Shang. If he wins, which he should, he will then go into R3 of the AO to potentially face Alcaraz!
