^^ you clarify like pwn is a real word and not an invention by a moron who was too lazy to use backspace

peace

Whatever be the origin, its globally accepted gaming lingo now, so might as well use it "correctly".

Besides, pawn has another meaning altogether.

Saints Row 2 'won't be bug free' admits dev

Volition dev reveals Xbox 360 as lead platform - aiming for PS3 360 parity.

Volition, developer of upcoming open-world gangster epic Saints Row 2, has admitted that the game "won't be bug free" when it's released at some point this year.

Speaking at the unveiling of the game in London, Volition's Greg Donovan, producer on Saints Row 2, went on to say that he believes no game is ever released bug free, and detailed what the team was doing to ensure that Saints Row 2, which is coming out on Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime this year, will be as polished as possible,

He said: "It won't be bug free. I don't think any game is. But part of what we did was to start development early on. Our development schedule is all about getting the gameplay in and even though this (version of the game shown to press) is pre-alpha, we're all about iterating the gameplay now."

He added: "We have a full QA team on it, we've been able to undergo a massive engine overhaul."

The first Saints Row, on Xbox 360, suffered from some slowdown and tearing issues. When asked if the team had overcome these problems for the sequel, Donovan replied: "I think you're probably referring to some of the streaming stuff. That's no longer an issue now. We have flying in the game, aircraft, helicopters and it hasn't been an issue at all."

Donovan also revealed that the Xbox 360 was the lead platform for Saints Row 2, but stressed that there won't be any differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

"We're still talking about DLC," he said. "I don't know whether or not it makes sense to differ that up a little bit but as far as feature parity, 360 and PS3 will be the same.

"We've been developing them simultaneously. Because we're using proprietary technology from Saints Row in that sense the 360 is the lead platform."

Saints Row 2 dev: 'we can compete with GTA 4'

Expects co-op will be a "huge distinguishing factor", doesn't believe Rockstar is holding anything back.

Developer Volition believes Saints Row 2 will more than hold its own in the battle of the gangster sandbox games when it goes head to head with GTA 4 this year.

Speaking at the unveiling of the game in London, Volition's Greg Donovan, producer on Saints Row 2, added that he didn't believe Rockstar was "holding something back" with regards to cooperative play in GTA 4, a game mode he expects to be a "huge distinguishing factor" between the two titles.

He said: "The only thing I know about GTA is what I've read. From what I've read it seems like they're going in a more realistic direction. For us it's more about almost a hyper-realistic quality, over-the-top, all about these memorable moments, very compelling gameplay and frankly we wouldn't be releasing this year if we didn't think it would be competitive."

He added: "I think co-op is a huge distinguishing factor. Unless they are really holding something, I don't think they are. I think that's a big step, a plus for us. We also remember that Saints Row 1 was the first one to do competitive multi play - we're going to continue to blow that out as well."

The first Saints Row enjoyed healthy sales and positive review scores when it was released on the Xbox 360 in September 2006, despite many claiming it simply copied Grand Theft Auto 3. It was, however, the only next-gen game similar to GTA 3 available at the time.

We expect Saints Row 2 to have a much tougher time this year since it's going up against Rockstar's guaranteed monster hit.

Donovan wouldn't go into great detail about Saints Row 2's online elements, aping Rockstar's similarly secretive approach, but he did say that fans shouldn't expect "your typical deathmatch!".

He said: "We're not releasing finite details on that (online multiplayer) yet, What we are saying is that Saints Row showed us where we needed to go and we're going in that direction. Successful competitive multi play is taking elements of the single-player and applying them to the competitive multiplayer. For us that means elements like activities and missions, ambient systems, so that's kind of the direction we're going. It isn't your typical deathmatch, put it that way!"

Optimistic!

Saints Row 2: running and gunning with crazy character customization options

When Saints Row (XB360) shipped in 2006, it had the luxury of no competition. As the first Grand Theft Auto-style game of this generation, it got a lot of credit for outdoing parts of Rockstar?s popular franchise with better visuals and controls. But with Saints Row 2 on track to ship after GTA4, the crew at developer Volition have gone from having no competition to facing possibly the biggest game of 2008. And now their challenge is to distinguish themselves as more than a good GTA clone.

If you accept THQ's explanation, one main difference between the two series is that GTA is now taking itself more seriously than it has in the past, while Saints Row is going more over-the-top, which seems like a fair comparison.

You can see this clearly in the game's character creation mode; while GTA4 features a predefined protagonist, Saints Row 2 takes avatar creation to a pretty extreme level. As you'd expect from any customization setup, you can use sliders to determine your facial features, character model, clothes, and even the degree of "fatness." But the options here go a lot deeper than in most games, with multiple pages of lists to pick from. You can also select things like your walking style, taunts, combat approach, and compliments that you can give to members of your squad.

Of special note is that you can play as a male or female, but it's actually a sliding scale -- you have 100 degrees of how male or female you want to be, so you can have a character that's 30% male and 70% female, which seems like it's probably a videogame first. It's all part of Volition's kitchen-sink approach, which should help explain some of the screenshots that have been floating around online. Games rarely come close to having this much character creation flexibility, and if any game is going to give the upcoming massively multiplayer APB a good fight in this area, Saints Row 2 is it.

Even though the character creation is impressive, it's the action that makes this kind of game work. The developer's focus in that respect is to add more of everything -- extra vehicles, a bigger city (including an area inspired by Times Square that probably won't help the game dodge GTA comparisons), new moves like the ability to take human shields, etc. Drop in for a minute and you might not notice huge changes over the first game, apart from a new aiming system that lets you zoom-in for over the shoulder shots, but we're hopeful that this variety will keep things interesting all the way through.

Saints Row 2 will also have quite a few multiplayer options, with online co-op available through the main campaign (and vehicles designed to support two players -- one player can fly a plane while the other takes the gunner seat) . THQ tells us that the other yet-to-be-revealed multiplayer modes are more team- and objective-based than those in the first game.

So the game's not hurting for content, and seems to be establishing more of an identity by focusing on the silly, over-the-top approach. But it's also going to be competing with one of the biggest games of the year, and one which looks pretty damn impressive from what we've seen so far. With any luck, Volition can make a game that'll be worth talking about once all the GTA attention dies down.

the amt of customization in SR2 is just mindblowing !

From ign's preview, u can even customize the way ur character walks, taunts and stuff. Thats the sole reason why I'll be buying this game :threatenlumber: But looks wise, it still retains that cartoony looks of SR, and not as gritty or dark as GTA IV !

Each is diff in its own aspect -

Saints Row 2 - Customization

GTA IV - Euphoria physics + recreation of NYC in detail + dark setting and characters + music

Mafia II - so far gfx and if mafia is anything to go by, excellent storyline !

I do think co-op will be a big factor. I mean has anyone played the two co-op missions of Saints Row?

They are one of the toughest and for sure the best co-op I have played so far.

Me and Ashish (Bruno) took 4 hrs to complete both the missions!!!
