Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

I just can't see how Castlevania is supposed to be a worse game than this, Castlevania has better presentation with top notch production values (infact its arguably the best multiplatform game as far as presentation/production values go) & it has a challenging gameplay with a LONG singleplayer, score & storywise it should be comparable to this game. So where exactly is Enslaved doing better according to them ? Oh I see....automatic platforming, they complained about platforming in Castlevania being hard so its no wonder that they love it in this game.

same here. going by the demos, the presentation is better, CV overall looks leagues better than enslaved, the combat is deeper and the platforming cant get any worse than the one in enslaved. the campaign is twice as long and with arguably more variety in its gameplay. the only area where Enslaved hypothetically scores is its story which is apparently pretty decent by video game standards but purely judging by the footage shown of CV so far, its story looks intriguing and interesting as well.

Most of the games i have played in my life ....music and story has been the most important thing to me....gameplay and graphics come next...this game looks to have both things that i want most ....reviews and you guys have pointed out the gameplay being terrible..so that will be something i have to deal with to enjoy great story and music. Guess i am fine with it.....still though i feel not as excited to play as i was at one time after reading gameplay part being bad...:(

^^ You and the rest of IVG.

Castlevania for me too over this anyday .

Destructoid 9.

A great story makes a huge difference in such games.

indeed. will pick this up once it gets a budget price. of course i too am puzzled how did LoS managed to score 0.5 less than this game when LoS looks to be better in every aspect. stupid doped reviewers are stupid and doped; but anyhoo. will get them both.

Picard > Gollum

Patrick Stewart > Serkis

Therefore, LOS > Enslaved.

Hence proved.

/thread

The math is strong with this one....me rikes !

Castlevania would've scored lot higher if they had named it something other than Castlevania and released it as a new IP.

totally

earlier Castlevania's were epic

this one is namesake

good but namesake

Played the demo, I'm getting this game. Graphics aren't very different from a games running with UE, and it looks a lot like Bionic commando, but with slightly less detailed textures.

Gameplay is not like uncharted, probably the way platforming is in the first level, people are drawing the similarity with UC, but it is not. There are lot more procedural animations here while doing the platforming and the movement is not very linear.

Conclusion

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West often stumbles on the technical side. In one cut-scene, Monkey wasn’t even there. Another time, as mentioned before, the voices missed the mouths entirely. There are minor frame rate and screen tearing problems. The combat can feel repetitive, control isn’t as stable as he could’ve been, and not all commands work perfectly all the time. But the entire scope of the production vastly outstrips these drawbacks; in other words, this one is greater than the sum of its parts. The character development, superb performances by Serkis and Shaw, nicely written and engaging storyline by Alex Garland, beautiful soundtrack, excellent effects, pretty vistas, and great pacing/balance kept me happily entertained. I suppose the best way to sum up is this-

If you’re one of those people who are very tech-oriented, in that little bugs and hitches and glitches really get to you, and such faults can really hinder your enjoyment, you’re going to be at least slightly frustrated with Enslaved. If you’re more of an artistic person and you value the things you feel more than the things you see, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t like it. I hope this final explanation is helpful.

Oh come on! Seriously? Thats how you end a review? Tell your readers that people who like this game admire artistic things and the people who dislike it have a stick up their a*s about details?

People get paid for this sh*t?

Played the demo yesterday.

Its short, but surprisingly fun. The graphics are uneven, awesome in some places, sh*t in others. The set piece in the demo is fantastic. The automatic platforming was fun in the context of the set piece.
