Alex Garland made a name for himself as the writer of the novel The Beach. Then he wrote the script for horror flick 28 Days Later and the one for sci-fi film Sunshine. Now?

He is not only writing futuristic action title Enslaved, but he ended up doing much more than that says developer Ninja Theory. "[Garland] worked with our designers, first to lay out the first draft of the script so we could shoot it, and then he worked with us in-house once a week, all day long, to help set out the level design," says Ninja Theory creative director Tameem Antoniades, "because you can't separate level design from the story — it has to be as one."

Garland "effectively" became a level designer, says the Ninja Theory exec.

"Later on [in the design process], when we had all the elements in the game, [Garland] would look at it as if it was a first cut of the movie. He wouldn't just give feedback on where the video lines should be placed, but also on the staging of the events, and how to add tension and drama through camera angles and music and so forth... We have learnt so much off of him, it has been eye-opener."

Ninja Theory released Heavenly Sword for the PS3 in 2007. Enslaved will hit the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Enslaved: Some Of The Best Visuals We've Ever Seen?

Now, before you scoff, bear in mind we're talking about the developer that first presented us with a glimpse of what the PlayStation 3 was capable of way back in 2007...

[gt]100015[/gt]

Ninja Theory, the team behind one of the PS3's first great exclusives, Heavenly Sword, is currently hard at work on their new action/adventure title, Enslaved. The game has been in the headlines a lot lately, and it's primarily because the details that keep leaking out from the European designer are pretty darn impressive. And you know, we like it when we hear feedback from fellow journalists who have actually seen the game in action; take CVG's early analysis as an example. They say it's "as colorful as Mario, as detailed as Gears and as beautifully animated as Uncharted." ...um, all right. Now, bear in mind that the studio decided to go multiplatform after making "no money" on Heavenly Sword, and CVG's man made such bold statements after seeing Enslaved run on the Xbox 360. He says the platforming sequences "look straight out of Naughty Dog's game," and overall, "the set pieces we saw were absolutely of Uncharted's caliber." Considering this, if the actual mechanics can also live up to expectations, we should all be in for a very big treat. Cross your fingers!

the video is old one though. :furious:

It looks ok. The platforming looks a lot like Prince of Persia (the shitty one) so I hope its not that scripted and the combat montage is like GoW fatality moves highlight reel. Looks like good fun but I am not getting a "day 1" vibe here.

Enslaved key to Namco’s Top 5 plan

“Enslaved is much more than a product, it is the symbol of the future of this company. The game looks incredible, the studio is well-known and everything is on track.

“It’s important for consumers to play Enslaved because it could be the benchmark of what we have to make as a company.

“In five years Enslaved should be the most important franchise for Namco Bandai. Enslaved 2 and 3 should be our equivalent of Gran Turismo 5 or Uncharted.

comparing it with gt5 is too much GT has reached a level where it can take decades for games to reach that level ....but comparing it with uc may be coz like how uc become a super hit franchise in just two games...may be he means to say Enslaved will be a popular one by the time enslaved 2 or 3 comes out.
