Brink

You folks will gladly buy the next installment of COD even if its exactly the same game as Black Ops or Modern Warfare with a different skin but will think ten times before touching a new IP like Brink as if it has the bubonic plague.

but if brink is designed to be a clone of cod or killzone or whatever, then why should anyone bother with it when they might as well play the real thing?

Massive difference between co op and MP. I can still find people to play Crackdown in Co op with. Its however impossible to find people to play Riddick with in MP.

Co op doesnt need a large active userbase. Competitive MP lives and dies simply depending on its userbase. And I dont see this one living.

Might be wrong but I doubt it.

That's my point, the MP is not entirely competitive. At least its not in the same league as COD and Halo. It's not even a separate section of the game.

Riddick is a bad example. No one (not even the developers) expected it to be popular. Whereas Brink is being marketed as an online game.

The fact is its not a clone. Just because someone saw some ability that looks like the martyrdom perk or a TF2 turret doesn't make it a rip-off of those games. It's got enough stuff of its own going on. There's the parkour and different character body types which result in different play styles. Not to mention tons of customization.

The problem with new IPs is people convincing themselves why they do not need the game whereas with established sequels its usually the other way round. They know that its a rehash of the previous game but they'll still latch on to some new feature or new map just to convince themselves "OMG! the MP is so much improved! I'm so getting this!".

all the stuff you mentioned has also been done before you know? who knows how brink will turn out, but while you're saying people shouldn't ignore it because it's a new i.p., i'm saying it shouldn't get a free pass (to get away without doing anything different) just because it's a new i.p. either.

So the established ones get a free pass? Going by that logic you'll expect every new game to play differently. If that's the case why don't we all just buy one definitive game from every generation to represent every genre and play the same game for the rest of our lives?

And I think Brink has enough identity to stand out from the crowd of shooters. At least it on the surface it doesn't look like the umpteenth COD clone with its generic marines, humvees and Michael Bay helicopters.

it doesn't look like the umpteenth cod because it's ripping off elements from a bunch of other games as well. but make no mistake, it is ripping off other games when it comes to gameplay. there isn't a single new thing on display in that department.

the bottom line is, either your game does something different or it does the same thing better, otherwise it will naturally get ignored by the people who play the more established games like cod/bc2/kz3 or whatever.

i honestly don't see the game taking off on ivg, but that's just my personal read on the matter. i'd attribute this to a poorly chosen release window, a higher price point for console versions, no pc version availability and the simple fact that very few people seem really excited about the game. that isn't necessarily a reflection of the quality of the game, and who knows it might turn out to be excellent, but unless it gets some really good word of mouth or something in this thread, i just see it dying pretty soon.

+ 1

i'm yet to see a decent gameplay video showing all the classes and some gameplay...

Only way this can be successful in IVG is if they release a beta or demo and people should love it...

Too late for beta i guess....

Fine. :| Go play your CODs and Halos and Killzones and L4Ds and whatever you kids love and adore. Let those who have decided to buy Brink buy it. The fact is that most folks who are trolling here are actually interested in the game. They're just waiting for someone else to try it first.
