Nemo
@ jr we might have been good under a dictatorship, u say. Have u any idea of a successful dictatorship ?? you just look at china and admire it, my dear you would not even be allowed to access this website and type your views if you were there. Please just take a moment and think what exaclty you are demanding when u say u want a dictator to rule you. btw i would ask one, just one example of any developed or successful nation that has actively followed a dictator regime in the entire time post ww2. Nemo
more over, the HDI and many other problems is largely because of over population. I dont think the situation would be any better in china (the only semi dictator ruled successful nation) its just that chinese are very defensive about any one trying to paint them in bad picture, i wont be surprised if the data for HDI they have is not tampered with. I can write 4 pages on this .... I heard Sanjay Dutt say this in munnabhai-- Agar Baapu aaj zinda hota to bolta " Desh to apna hogaya , par loga paraye hogaye " . The police , Govt machinery , BMC is 100 % corrupt. Its like u dont belong there if u arent corrupt
TropicalRajput
i agree wid karoo ... we would have been a better nation without democracy .WE would have been better if been under a dictator...... we have a HDI rating of 134 out of a total of 182 countries. The higher the HDI, greater is the inequality of income and lower the std. of living. We are amongst the top 10 corrupt countries in the world. The inflation in this country is apparently at wat 4-5 % ... wat no one notices is that here in india we use WPI (wholesale price index) and not CPI (consumer price index)...that gives misleading figures on inflation.... IF we start mentioning inflation in terms of CPI ....it would easily stand closer to 15-20 % Have you been to North Korea? Cuba? Iraq during Saddam's time? Libya? China (Youtube, Facebook, Google Images, BBC and half the internet is banned) and oh China has 1 child policy. India is in Top 10 corrupt countries? Where did you find this from? India is no where near Top 10 most corrupted countries. Where do you place Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Chad, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Congo, Sudan, Myanmar, Congo, Haiti, Iraq, Afghanistan... I can go on and on before India's no will come..

Nemo
@ jr nice angst. its good to feel for all this, trust me i would love to see it improved surely but dictatorship is not the answer. All this u mention about corruption and killing of people is there in china, only the news doesnt come out as the government has control over everything, you must have heard about the fiasco of the mass killing and riots with the Uyghur community. Soviat russia was famous for its oppression when ever any one dared challenge the govt. In dictatorship you will have nothing, nothing to say, you will have no rights no voice anything, at lest in a democracy you can get a bad neta out of the office, what would you do in a dictatorship ?? Absolute power corrupts absolutely my friend.
Aftrunner
I am just slack-jawed at the responses by some of the retards here today. A military rule? Dictatorship? I could go on a whole rant but tropicalrajput puts it better. Lets face it "In a Democracy, the people get the government they deserve." Yeah boo f**king hoo. "Waaah everyone is corrupt, people are poor, the politicians only care about lining their pockets, Indians are uncivilized." So what the f**k are you doing about it besides bitching on a forum? f**king spoiled brats with a sense of entitlement and an ego complex. You are no better than anyone else. And probably a lot worse than most.

Even us-europe has some level of corruption, its just that people in power there do the work honestly even when they are corrupt, not so much here. Keyofx
I'm all up for building a metro. What I hate is the way it is being done haphazardly, without any care for the people who have to commute through the roads on which its being made. Just have a look, the roads on either side have vanished, its dust 24/7 and when it rains.... We pay road tax, infrastructure tax and what not....I know this is a redundant discussion, but really sad to see the condition of our cities, even the most urban ones in today's age and time We have 1.2 Billion people Corners will obviously be cut! Trust me, you'd rather be here than in China where they cut corners but YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. AND THEY EXECUTE YOU FOR HAVING A DIFFERING OPINION. We seriously need to start appreciating what we have. Our democracy is going to be what pushes us over China in 20 odd years. And wtf happened here while I was gone

Absolute power corrupts absolutely my friend. Yeah, even I agree democracy is the best form of govt. But I sincerely hope someday they'll put a basic qualification requirement and an age limit for contesting elections. That should filter out some of the bad apples. Qualification to ensure that atleast we are ruled by ppl with good education and age limit to eradicate ailing, age old, wheel chair ridden guys from occupying top posts. TropicalRajput
Ya democracy is great my bad, i hope you dont get raped by msn and shivsena, can you even say anything to them? nope they do what they want. That is the reason china has zoomed ahead of india, cuz our main weakness is democracy and diversity. China is ahead of India because they have better infrastructure. If you want 1 million barbie dolls then go to China. If you want software then you come to India. China runs sweatshops. Employees don't even get toilet breaks. They get peanuts. They get business because other countries save whole lot of money. China has loads of crime. You don't get to hear it because the news channels are controller by the state. Come to diversity part. I might get sh*t for this from people but I am an Atheist. India lags because of religion. So much money is poured into religion in India when that money can be used somewhere else which would actually be beneficial to the country rather than building a temple/church/mosque/guruduwara where people can go and pray to a figure which just sits there and does nothing. It does nothing because it's made out of cement and marble. Schools teach theory of evolution but people believe in fairy tales and actually believe that monkey's can fly. Religion is killing India. There are so many customs/traditions that are still performed in small villages and even in big cities (Aishwariya Rai Bachan being a Manglik, first had to marry a tree, then Abhishek Bachan to keep the solar system intact). When you have someone this Hi-Fi doing this sort of crazy stuff, you really expect the country to mature up? Is it Government's fault? Indian society is moving ahead slowly. 13 years ago when movie Fire was released, movie theaters were burned for showing it and now in today's date when Dostana was released, theaters were full. People's perception is slowly changing. Who is lagging behind? Villages with their useless customs and people who bring religion into everything. China does not care for religion because majority is Atheist.

The MNS may be bad, but it isn't a fault of democracy. People are flawed, but no way does it mean you write everything off. And you brought diversity into it, too. You do know that despite our diversity we've always stood strong as a country when its mattered right? You don't see that ANYWHERE.
