Bully: Scholarship Edition

old news but

Could GTA IV have the same trouble as Bully?

"In response to reports from dissatisfied gamers claiming that the Xbox 360 version of Bully Scholarship Edition is riddled with technical problems, Rockstar boss Sam Houser released a statement to apologise and offer an explanation as to how the various issues went undetected.

Houser explains: "It appears that some older 360s are experiencing framerate issues, freezes and other problems. You have our word that we never experienced any of this in QA - in any of our offices or at Microsoft. I am horrified, and we are now working around the clock to rectify this situation."

We have no reason to question the honesty of Houser's statement - Rockstar is one of the most fastidious publishers/developers in the business and we simply can't imagine it would ever entertain the idea of intentionally releasing a broken game. After all, we know that its not scared of delaying something that it doesn't consider to be ready.

So while we don't doubt Rockstar's integrity, we have to wonder whether any similar technical issues are only now being identified in the 360 version of GTA IV. If so, could this have any impact on the game's release date? Further more, should owners of older Xbox 360s be concerned that their consoles are going to experience problems when running new games? Will this simply mean more patch fixes or will it require a more drastic solution? Are we getting our panties in a pickle over nothing?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing neither Rockstar or Microsoft was able to offer any comment, but both said they would respond - and hopefully allay our fears - later in the day, so stay tuned for an update."

personally i think its BS, its just a small issue, that can be fixed. but still would be concerned about this whole "older 360s"

"We have just become aware of the issues people are having with Bully Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360. It appears that some older 360s are experiencing framerate issues, freezes and other problems. You have our word that we never experienced any of this in QA - in any of our offices or at Microsoft. I am horrified, and we are now working around the clock to rectify this situation. Thanks to Neo-Gaf for bringing this matter to our attention. We love our games and put a huge amount of energy and care into making them all that they can be. We would never shove anything out the door - we never have and never will. We apologise to everyone affected for the inconvenience. Respectfully, Sam Houser"

that causes a slight concern

i say that GTA 4 won't any any such issues that were made by Bully on 360, simple reason, Bully = PS2 = 360 = issues. GTA 4 = 360 = PS3 = no issues.

by no issues i don't mean that it won't have any issues at all, it may have something that shouldn't be worried about.

The GTA series isn't particularly noted for its technically advanced graphics, but powered by the RAGE engine that debuted in Table Tennis, GTAIV is certainly a good-looking game. The city stretches as far as the eye can see, which means that Algonquin's tall buildings and bright lights tease you when you start the game restricted to the Broker district. With that said, the RAGE engine accomplishes this technical feat by blurring out the background image in a necessary but visually distracting act of trickery. Hopefully the team will be able to balance this out once it has optimised the game further to allow for a better mix of fidelity and performance. On the plus side, we were encouraged by the lack of slowdown at this stage, and with hardly any other bugs to be seen during our playing time, it's looking very encouraging for the game's planned April release. There are so many incidental details in GTAIV that it's sometimes easy to take them for granted. You still have a small map in the corner of the screen to help navigate, but more expensive cars also have a GPS system. As you drive a Mercedes-style car around Liberty City, a gentle female voice will tell you where to turn to reach your target. It might not always pick the quickest route, but it is clever enough not to guide you down one-way streets. As with previous GTAs, bridges will initially be closed off to restrict players from entering certain parts of the city, but we were able to skip forward in the game and cross the bridge from Broker to Algonquin. The only problem: tollbooths have been included in the game, and speeding through the barrier resulted in a throng of police cars chasing us over. The next time we tried, we slowed down at the window, paid the toll, and waited for the barrier to open

^^ LOL... I would have bought this game now if it wasn't for my ever increasing backlog and the looming threat of GTA IV...

even I'm not buying any new game for the same reason....oblivion, BLACK take up whatever is left of my free time....and then there's GTA IV hardly 1.5 months down the line :gunsmilie:
