Raoul
Hii, i am planning to buy M17x Base Model in the next few days, i had a few questions before i did that- 1. Does it have two 1 Gb cards, so a total of 2 gb power or one 1 gb card with SLI as an option for later up gradation. 2. Now its coming with Windows 7, its compatibility with software and games. 3. What about the service back up. Thanks for your replay Raoul
AtheK
base model will not have two cards AFAIK. Service from DEll is usually top notch. No worries with Windows7.

kunallkw
upgrading your system later-on can be a bitch, coz i think if you are making 1.5lacs worth investment you'd want somthing to run for a long long time. and the mobile series of nvidia cards are not at par with the desktop ones dell after sales is dont worry on that front make sure u get the three year warranty otherwise it'll be very expensive renewing later on AthekWa correct me if wrong
AtheK
you are right nunni.... also what is the base config you are talking about can you copy the specs here as sent by alienware and also the price
Raoul
Thanks for the reply i am planning to buy the 1.44 lakh version, its specs are available on the indian dell site. i was talking to a guy called Anith from Dell in Banglore he told me that it has two 1 gb cards though i got a feeling that he was reading me the spec from a pamphlet. On the site it says this Graphic Card SLI Dual 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M do u think its strong enough to take of my gaming needs for games like Crysis, fallout, COD:MW2 and the likes
AtheK
SLI means two cards so yes it has two cards... Crysis will run max on medium, its a notebook GPU, two of them put together might not be able to match a GTX260 also AFAIK.
gonekrazy3000
Btw. as opposed to what other people have told you Dell's service sucks really bad in India. They literally have just 2 service centres in India. One in Delhi and i think the other in Mumbai. If you live outside these 2 states expect the worst service you have ever got in your life. Like... a month to replace a damaged battery.

With that config, Crysis will run smoothly on High settings with AA set low and AF turned up. If you keep the AA off, Crysis will even run on Enthusiast settings. Not very sure on that...but ya some tweaks here and there maybe he can run it on high settings... @Raoul: i hope you know the notebook weighs a lil over 5kg and you wont be able to carry it around all the time, until ofcourse you want rough and tough shoulders

There is no doubt that this beast will easily do High on Crysis.

AtheK
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M SLI is a combination of two Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M graphic cards for laptops that can run in SLI mode. The combination can be up to 40% faster if the game and driver support SLI properly. Some games may even run slower than a single 260M (but SLI can also be deactivated). The current consumption is twice as high as a single 260M. The graphic memory of both cards can't be added and compared to single cards, as each card stores the same information. Therefore, a GTX 260M SLI with 2x512 only counts as 512 MB graphic memory for games. As all SLI combination, the GeForce 260M SLI may suffer from micro stuttering at frame rates between 20 to 30 fps. Because of the different frame times (e.g. two frames may be shown shortly after each other and then a long pause comes), an SLI combination may need higher frame rates for fluent gameplay. As all cards with DirectX 10 capabilities, the GeForce GTX 260M SLI combination renders the 3D images using "Unified Shaders". There don't exist any more dedicated pixel- and vertex shaders but 2x112 so called stream processors make the graphic work (which has been done by pixel and vertex shaders in former days). Furthermore, the shader units are higher clocked than the chip (1375 MHz). The performance of the GTX 260M SLI is in the region of a single GTX 260M (with proper SLI support above, else beyond). A single GTX 260M is only a bit faster than a 9800M GTX due to the higher clock speed. For current DirectX 10 games like Crysis, World in Conflict, Bioshock or Age of Conan, the performance of this graphic card is sufficient with medium and high details. Older games and less demanding ones run fluently with high resolutions and full details. The memory equipment is up to 2x1024 MB GDDR3 (up to 950MHz in MXM 3.0 boards and up to 800 MHz in MXM 2.0 boards). An advantage of the GeForce GTX 260M SLI is the integrated PureVideo HD video processor. It is able to help with the decoding of H.264-, VC-1-, MPEG2- and WMV9 video material in HD quality and therefore eases the CPU usage. Both chips also support PhysX and CUDA applications. A single GTX 260M can also be used to calculate PhysX effects and this way improve the overall performance. I think you are right it should be good at high settings, but turning on AA will really hamper the frame rate. more here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...LI.18909.0.html
MarketTantrik
Its faster than the 9800GTX, so it is definitely much much faster than the 8800GT.
