Need for Speed: World Online

Developer: EA Black Box , EA Shanghai

Platforms: PC

Genre: GT / Street Racing MMO

Release: Q4 2010

Need for Speed: World Online is one of the next installments in the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed published by Electronic Arts and a sequel to Need for Speed: Undercover. This iteration is being co-developed by EA Black Box and EA Singapore. World Online is a free-to-play MMORG (massively multiplayer online racing game), the first MMORG in the Need for Speed series after Motor City Online. EA marketing manager Keith Munro states that "this Play 4 Free action racing game will give Need for Speed fans the most licensed cars, parts and game modes ever in Need for Speed's history".[1] There is now an official teaser, which confirms the presence of the Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Lexus cars, along with the return of the police. The promo image is a Nissan 350Z racing in the Chinatown of Palmont (the city of Need for Speed: Carbon) in mid-day.

In an interview with World Online producer, John Doyle, he mentioned that the European and North American versions of the game will have differences from the Asian one. It was also confirmed that the game will feature the cities of Palmont and Rockport which were featured in Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: Most Wanted respectively. Police chases were confirmed to return as well, together with a co-op and team based cop play.[2]

World Online is currently in public beta-testing limited to residents of Taiwan.[3] Several in-game videos from beta-versions of the game can be found on YouTube.

Yeah I hope this fills in the place left behind by Test Drive Unlimited.

The world map looks big enough as it will have two huge cities Palmont and Rockport combined from previous two games , just want in car views and all set to go on a long drive. ;)

or actually EA are giving this free of cost?

No info has been out as of yet by EA whether it will be a pay to play online like WOW or free like Test Drive Unlimited.

Is it just me or does the first screen look like it's been ripped off from Most Wanted?

Yeah it does , but its still in beta stage , and also the map is comprised of two cities seen in previous NFS games Carbon and Most Wanted , Palmont and Rockport respectively.

Wow racing mmo Will be a big flop for sure.First they need to release hit nfs games and then think abt racing MMO

you are being very critical mister!

do u think Shift is a flop then?

also....why do u need successful games in the past to release a MMo racing title....Is it a requirement or something?

I agree. It actually looks and sounds very interesting. TDU was a great game but felt a little lacking. If EA and Black Box are able to replicate the gameplay/customization/driving mechanics from MW and Carbon, along with the fairly large game world with human players, this should be a really fun title.

I really hope that the game has the option of playing with both a controller and the keyboard at the same time. Controller for driving and KB for controlling the MMO interface.

I'm sure it will support the Xbox 360 controller at least , as NFS Shift supports the controller and works really well.

I won't be surprised if the game is later on announced on consoles as well , as TDU was great on X360 as well.

I played TDU on PC with X360 controller , was perfect for MMO , but there was no option to zoom in and out of the map with controller , had to do this with mouse wheel only.

I really had wished to see TDU on PS3 , but it never happened , that's why was waiting for some TDU 2 news , but looks like Atari is dead now forever.

Hopefully this delivers. :naughty:
