Using the Infectus chip and the addon board you'll be able to downgrade any current Xbox360 kernel (to an exploitable one (4532,4548) - so you can run linux and soon maybe homebrew on your Xbox360)!

before the console war even started, bets were always being made on how long it would take for the first hack to come out. 360 really has an aggressive modders on its tail. im just wondering how long it would take for this to happen to ps3. but really home brew has helping with the other OS option on the ps3.

yaa..i have seen video Playstation3 running Windows Xp..

Ps3 modding to play pirated games is not so easy because the core or Cell processor of ps3 is inbuilt with Anti piracy Security...but now days modders r more intelligent..so i hope they will find some way..

Dude, be more coherent in your posts. You're rambling here. "Anti Piracy Security" ?? Like every console released in the two decades didnt have that.

"The architecture's main strength is its ability to allow an application to protect itself using the hardware security features instead of the conventional method of solely relying on the operating system or other supervisory software for protection. Therefore, if the operating system is compromised by an attack, the hardware security features can still protect the application and its valuable data. As an analogy, consider the protection the supervisory software provides as the castle's moat and the Cell BE security hardware features as the locked safe inside the castle."

The Secure Processing Vault

To achieve a secure platform, a processing environment must exist where a single application can execute isolated from all other executing software threads in the system.  The Cell BE processor's Vault can provide such an environment.  Within the vault, the execution of the application and its data cannot be manipulated or observed -- the hardware design prevents other applications from doing so.  For example, digital movie content can be decrypted in, and played from, the vault without the danger of the content being compromised.

but on the anti-piracy system view. more smarter machine....... the more smarter hacker/ modders simple.

oh.... like i got yellow dog on my ps3, but has anyone installed open office yet????

All the talk of hardware level protection is hocus jumbo BS. Hell, modders went to the extent of hacking the firmware of the disc drive on the X360, while M$ focused all their efforts on virtualisation, etc. at the processor and code execution level. They probably didnt even realize at that time that the drive was the weak link in the chain.

You would imagine with all of Sony's troubles and delays in releasing the PS3, they would have left some pretty large back doors into their system at the hardware level. My guess is, the novelty of the Blu Ray drive is what has kept hackers at bay till date. But dont expect the status quo to be maintained for too long, especially if sales of the PS3 pick up steadily.
