farzi gamer
My TV cabinet does not provide a good ventilation at the back side for PS3, guess I need some reshuffling this evening.
wickedbl0ke
you should keep the front fans even more aired than the back ones since the front ones are for intake and back ones are for exhaust..I haven't noticed the PS3 running hot though.. at max it becomes warm for me even after 10 hours of continuous gaming. Mine is placed horizontally with good amount of open area on all sides.. Vertical "could" put a strain on the blu ray drive though (as LED mentioned). Basically, I think you can put it in any direction you want as long as it is placed in open areas. PS3 coolers are just a gimmick to earn money or needed only if you are dealing with constrained space. Yup Yup Open areas is the keyword.

wickedbl0ke
Yup Yup Open areas is the keyword. and like you said the back is for exhaust, if the hot air aint coming out properly, thats the reason for it getting hot.

Solitaire
Maybe you could just sum this whole discussion up with the fact that greater the area exposed to the air faster the heat dissipation. By keeping it vertical (assuming you don't keep it against a wall), the area unexposed is just the thinner side (which doesn't get as hot as the base) which doesn't have nearly as much area as the base... Hence vertical = cooler End of story.

in-fi-ni-ty
its actually very simple. take a thermometer n measure the temp with both possibilities. n determine the answer OR even better two people keep two diff posi and the posi of the one whose ps3 goes kaput will be bad one. so we wait now............... .......... still waiting ........
