Solitaire
lol, looks likes you didn't read the story before summing/ending it What did I miss- the BD reading strain thing?? I'm just stating the physics point of view... not basing my conclusion on what different people are saying or the thread starter is saying How can you run it cooler when horizontal when you have that big a (heated) area resting on a surface whereas the space exposed is obviously a lot more when you leave it vertical... wickedbl0ke
^^^^ try it out.. cooler the better rite? ofcourse hanging it on a wire is a bloody joke...unless he innovator happens to think its a nintendo ive also heard that an upside down ps3 starts emitting noises. any experiences anyone? Solitaire
upside down... lol Mine is vertical... the base is indeed cooler.
wickedbl0ke
upside down... lolMine is vertical... the base is indeed cooler. yea seriously upside down. i once met a chap who said it happens. who the f**k wants to know can try it. i dint gv it a shot. id recommend neither should you, or you would be paying 10k for replacement. LOL.
manu_para
Its just physics....heat transfer...more surface area available for the heat to transfer....
ThE JuGgErNaUT
tried.... veritical mein less heating of the body.....dissipation is higher i guess. so most probably it RUNS at the same temp, just better heat dissipation so is cooler
Ashishnk
hot air moves up, n fortunately ps3 has a lot of vents on the upper side, hence cooling works well thr !!!
rac260565
Engineer here & vertical PS3 is surely the way to go! Proof? I play daily from 7-10 without any complaints. Agreed that it's winter, but there are concrete reasons to back the statement: 1. Heat dissipated by natural convection: Q = hAdeltaT, so more the surface area A, faster the heat dissipation. 2. Heat dissipated by radiation: Firstly, PS3 is black so there is good amt of heat dissipated by radiation. Plus here too the eqn is Q = emissivity*area*deltaT. Again the area term comes in the numerator. So undoubtedly, when a PS3 is kept vertical, the large "base area" of a horizontal area is now in contact with air & open to convective heat transfer plus radiation is more effective as surrounding air is free & cooler compared to horz. arrangement. So I guess that's explanation enough for you guys

Jigsaw
Vertical for me as well. Never even thought of keeping my ps3 horizontal looking at all the vents on the back. Same with the 360, i keep that vertical too.
