KWC
i always keeping my ps3 horizontal and i never faced any kind of problem. i have kept ps3 switched on more than 20 hours in a single streatch. still not a probs 20hours? You game that much?
theneurotoxin
Engineer here & vertical PS3 is surely the way to go!Proof? I play daily from 7-10 without any complaints. Agreed that it's winter, but there are concrete reasons to back the statement: 1. Heat dissipated by natural convection: Q = hAdeltaT, so more the surface area A, faster the heat dissipation. 2. Heat dissipated by radiation: Firstly, PS3 is black so there is good amt of heat dissipated by radiation. Plus here too the eqn is Q = emissivity*area*deltaT. Again the area term comes in the numerator. So undoubtedly, when a PS3 is kept vertical, the large "base area" of a horizontal area is now in contact with air & open to convective heat transfer plus radiation is more effective as surrounding air is free & cooler compared to horz. arrangement. So I guess that's explanation enough for you guys Its actually Power=Stefan's constant*emissivity*area*(abs.Temp^4).
kanbad
ps3 is a good device overall design wise. just keep it in open space. play it in open space. n after shuttin it of wait for 15-20 mins n den put it in tv trolleys or sum enclosures or whereever u store it to keep it away from dust. dat way it will keep running till ps4 comes out
rac260565
Its actually Power=Stefan's constant*emissivity*area*(abs.Temp^4). Yeah I agree I messed up with that one.. what I was thinking of was Newton's law of cooling: dQ//dT = k*(deltaT)
