Chewie Posted November 5, 2009 Report Share Posted November 5, 2009 hey guys need your opinion of whether i should wait for the ps3 slim (expected anywhere b/w late nov - dec) or go for the phat. both have its pros/cons. i'm assuming that when the ps3 slim launches it will be for 20k without any games bundled. so that effectively means that the phat is approx. 2k cheaper (20k minus 3k for the 2 games bundled plus approx. 1k for the additonal 40gb HDD on the slim). something else to take into account is that maybe when the slim is launched the phat is offered at a discount or with more games so that there is no leftover stock of the phat (this is obviously my assumption. there is no information to that effect) have listed a few pros and cons that i can see. slim pros smaller quieter less power consumption bitstream HD audio (from what i've read bitstream vs lpcm isnt any audible difference) 40 gb more hard drive slim cons will be slightly more expensive (approx. 2k more) cant install OS newer tech so less tried and tested phat pros looks turns out cheaper due to bundled games can install OS (dont know if it'll be used ultimately but always good to have. apparently can be used to install s/w that can rip blu-ray discs) phat cons smaller HDD noisier more power consumption so what do u guys suggest thanx Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

LaughingMan777 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Share Posted November 5, 2009 I went for phat. Cheaper Games bundled doesn't hurt the pocket the first few weeks. Looks better IMO Plus, I was a bit reluctant to wait for slim and then buy a brand new untested console. All consoles have teething problems. The phat is great VFM at the moment. It looks so much better than the PS3 slim logo. It looks like a freaking chinese ripoff....like one of those polystation ones. StormShadow Posted November 5, 2009 Report Share Posted November 5, 2009 Go for slim. 1)i prefer newer technology anytime.it doesnt necessarily mean huge difference but the phat one is cheaper for a reason...it will soon be an old thing. 2)and 2k is not a big save on a 20k console.you hardly get 1 game for it. 3)about the bundled games...well it depends on you (i got my slim with bundled games so it wasnt any issue for me). 4)& whoever says slim doesnt look good...well...trust me - its a lot more better than whats seen in pics.its really slick and sexy. cheers. It doesn't shout SEXY the way the phat does BTW, Does the slim follow the ps2 slim ka funda where there is an external power brick? Sahi bola, its is a fingerprint magnet for sure! I keep it covered with one of those soft cloths u get at traffic signals ... u know the brown and orange ones... As for the fingerprints.. i wipe it with a microfiber cloth. In hindsight though i'm a stickler for newer tech... the slim promises to be more energy efficient and slimmer ofcourse... so why not? Just a suggestion for the OP, if u do get the slim from Croma, do check out the extended 2 yr warranty offer. I got mine that way, so 1 yr regular warranty and for 750 bucks u get another 2 yrs peace of mind. A guy at office got a replacement ps3 under this warranty funda.... the replacement took a good 15-20 days and he had to argue to get the bundled game with the replacement console... but all's well that ends well Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
