I love Far cry's (the first one, on the PC) opening bit. Not the cutscene but once you start playing and you crawl through the sewers and then open the door to one of the most jaw dropping view you would have seen in a video game at that time.

Half life 1 wins hands down though.

I also have a very special place for all the Halo intros but that would probably be just me cause I really like the story. Except for the drop pod fom space in ODST which is outf**kingstanding.

Oh yeah, that bit in Far Cry was f**king brilliant! Bethesda tried the same thing later with Oblivion and FO3.

The ODST drop sequence... still can't get enough of it. It's one of those moments that make you realize how awesome video games are!

no love for fallout 3's start ??

i havent played many games but i really dug that

birth scene

Check my long post on the previous page.

Does nobody here think COD4 opening was awesome, with you being carried in a jeep and all that :scratchchin: ? Its one of the best opening title sequence in a video game IMO. Even the initial training mission in the ship was superbly executed.

....and Half life 2. The whole train ride thing was such a deja-vu.

+1. To this day, it looks good. Also, the song/graphics in the menu screen was superb too.

Some of my favorites (across all platforms, not necessarily PS3)...

Half-Life - Hands down my favorite opening to a game and it's not even a cutscene. All the little details made it so cool. Plus the whole "looks like a normal day at work but why do I have a bad feeling about it?" thing was so brilliantly done.

Half-Life 2 - Once again, more or less the same as HL1, yet so different.

Silent Hill 2 - Very simple. James Sunderland staring at his reflection in the mirror of a filthy bathroom at a rest stop just outside Silent Hill. You know the man is depressed and almost given up on life but yet has a little glimmer of hope... the letter.

Silent Hill: Homecoming - Initially comes off as a cheap "Jacob's Ladder" rip-off but makes so much more sense once you finish the game and know the whole story.

BioShock - More or less, inspired by Half-Life but the moment where you catch a glimpse of Rapture and the score kicks in is brilliant.

Fallout 3 - Seriously, how many games start with you being expelled from a birth canal?

Mass Effect - It isn't a grand opening but the text explaining the background, the title and the music give me goosebumps every single time. "What about Shepard?"

Prey - Another "normal day but something bad is gonna happen" kind of opening, which I loved.

Far Cry 2 - The jeep ride through the war torn African town was probably one of the best things about the game. Very reminiscent of the movie Blood Diamond.

Devil May Cry 3 - Dante kicking the sh*t out of demons who wouldn't let him have his pizza in peace. Never gets old!

Mafia - I'm glad someone else mentioned it too.

StarCraft/Diablo II/WarCraft III - Blizzard's cinematics pwn everything else out there.

Heavenly Sword - Pretty much all the cutscenes in the game were great but the opening really set the stage.

Folklore - So beautiful, so mysterious.

Left 4 Dead - Lots of gunfire + lots of zombies + Zoey = awesome intro.

There are more which I am missing. Will edit later...

Among recently released games I really loved the opening of Borderlands. It has a really laid-back feel with some funky music playing in the background + Tarantino/Guy Ritchie style captioned intros. Halo: ODST also had an awesome opening scene. I restarted the game twice just to see the intro. And yeah finally, Brutal Legend's intro kicks a*s!

Blizzard videos are the best - nothing comes close. Halo Wars had an excellent intro, and ODST was also nice. I am glad someone mentioned Folklore - I was about to right then I thought I would be flamed in this testosterone-filled action oriented place. Folklore drips atmosphere.

Thief opening movie

Thief opening movie :fear:

On a related note, Folklore also had one of the most chilling closing scenes. Made me think for quite a while after it was over.

WTF Tyler??

Come on man... it's not like I've played all the

good

games known to mankind :panic:

@strategy, yes Riddick had a great opening sequence too. I loved the credits.
