AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 reviewed

Ya because you invested for the future. But most of us don't do that when buying a PC for the first time. Anyway I also dont endorse the idea.

I can build a pc around the latest hardware available right now by investing a good amount of money. It will be good enough for say next 5 years no worries here. But what will I get for investing so much... same games which looks slightly better on pc but is still the same game.

What my point is that if PC can get 2-3 exclusive games every year which are good, then only it will be a good incentive for me to get a good rig.

I again repeat PC gaming is dying a slow death. All the developers love to make games for PC but there is not much incentive in doing so. So we are seeing so many multiplats and no PC exclusive like crysis. Even they have gone mutiplat.

crysis multiplat...what :D:):tongue::P:wOOtjumpy::wOOtjumpy::wOOtjumpy::wOOtjumpy::wOOtjumpy: oh waitamin :/ :(

The reason for multiplat games is not because the PC is dying. It's because studios have realized that they can make tons of more money by making games multiplatform. And FFS, Crysis is not the only PC exclusive worth playing this gen. Interesting how people conveniently choose to ignore games like The Witcher, Empire Total War, Company Of Heroes, Dawn Of War, Anno, Drakensang, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Torchlight and many others. Not to mention the long awaited Blizzard games.

And as Afty mentioned before, most multiplat games are a lot better on the PC. I usually end up playing both versions and I can tell from experience. Batman AA, Dragon Age, Borderlands, RE5, Risen, Wolfenstein etc were all better on the PC compared to their console counterparts. If you have a decent rig you don't need to pay twice as much to play inferior versions of these games.

Once again - consoles will come and go, PC gaming will never die.

you are stuck like a broken record.

Firstly game going multiplatform is not death of PC ..its simply means that console market is too huge for publishers to keep games exclusive to the desktop.

Secondly ,you may quote the sales figures, but the fact is pc market has evolved from the 20th century boxed copy model to online distribution and none of the sales chart keep stats for this model.

thirdly , "What my point is that if PC can get 2-3 exclusive games every year which are good, then only it will be a good incentive for me to get a good rig. "

this argument is null and void when you see this ->http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/games-of-2009/

also a 20k pc will play most of these and majority of these cost a fraction of a typical console game.

Consoles have overgrown the PC market .. true

but PC is dying - you are a dumb and you cant brain.

Ya because you invested for the future. But most of us don't do that when buying a PC for the first time. Anyway I also dont endorse the idea.

The PC I built cost me 30k if I remove the LCD and the sound sytem. I bought the Xbox 360 the same year for 27k. Not much of a price difference. As far as investing for the future... well if I had gone the cheap way and bought a PS2 instead of the Xbox would I be any more future proof than a cheap PC? Of course not.

I can build a pc around the latest hardware available right now by investing a good amount of money. It will be good enough for say next 5 years no worries here. But what will I get for investing so much... same games which looks slightly better on pc but is still the same game.

Lets see. Average price of a PC game 700-1000 bucks. Average price of a console game 2200-2800 bucks. Thats a saving of 18,000 if I buy 10 PC versions of console games. Just 10 games. That pays back your so called "investment" in six months. I dont even bother calculating how much I have saved over the last 3 years.

And they dont just look "slightly" better, the have faster loading times, get free add on content and PC specific extras.

What my point is that if PC can get 2-3 exclusive games every year which are good, then only it will be a good incentive for me to get a good rig.

PC has had exclusives. If you just choose to ignore certains genres doesnt mean they cease to exist.

I again repeat PC gaming is dying a slow death. All the developers love to make games for PC but there is not much incentive in doing so. So we are seeing so many multiplats and no PC exclusive like crysis. Even they have gone mutiplat.

The only thing thats dying here are your brain cells apparently. So PC exclusives are moving multiplatform. By the same argument the PC is getting more games that used to be consoles exclusives and yet you ignore that fact happily.

Ok no more arguments.

I may have lost some brain cells or gone dumb according to John. Thanks for pointing that out. :giggle: Working for 10-12 hour a day can do that to you.

Yes I have not played many RPGs if that's what you all mean. That is why today I took Tyler's help to get a feel of RPGs.

But I am happy with my console and an outdated PC. So no worries.

Thanks to all of you for a nice education in gaming. :hi2:

AMD cpus have become real good value for money .. a certain phenom x4 cpu was selling for 5k sometime back a f**king quad for 5k .. now that vfm .

No one is asking you to build a say bye-bye-to-ur-wallet build , a decent quad + a decent gpu (5750 or 5770 for ~10k) will make a good enough system which will serve you another 3-4 years.

Lol, I know the AMD cpus are bang for buck. I only meant if I was going all out and throwing money then I'd go for Intel's top of the line model. Besides when the i9 releases, prices for the i7's and i5's will hopefully come down.

Back when I was building this rig, I wrote down a huge list of stuff to buy and gave it to my Dad who was returning to India from Australia via Singapore (where I had asked him to get the parts required). The list of CPUs was completely AMD, then all of a sudden I saw that Intel had cut prices on the Core 2 Duo line and I changed my first choice to E6750. When they are priced close, the AMDs do lose out except when it comes to the absolute top of the line (where Intel's top end's prices don't justify the performance).

My cousin though is eternally angry at me for going the Intel way (last time I had an AMD was an AMD-K6-2 :), still have it though). Much to the glee of my sis-in-law who's at Intel in Arizona.

No point trying to keep up with GPUs though. Hopefully we'll see a price war when Nvidia comes out with their Fermi chip. Then if the 5970 still seems better bang for the buck, that would be the card of choice.. for a few months...

But no PhysX on Ati :harhar:

Edit: Whosoever asked,

Here's a benchmark from tomshardware showing the difference between an 8800gt and a 9600gt:

FOR INDIAN GAMING

i Still pc games is a better option

mainly because of the pricing of consoles and console games

if one owns a pc gaming rig is like owning a xbox360 (buy the xbox360 controller)

no difference at all plus one better high resolution textures ,AA, MSAA , .etc(in all better gaming)

guys nothing beats playing a FPS on KB/M

no need to pay for online gaming

coming to pricing

PC

borderlands 600

gta 4 450

left 4 dead 2 600

batman arkham 600

ashes cricket 450

total 2700

consoles

borderlands 2100

gta 4 2000

left 4 dead 2 2100

batman 2100

ashes cricket 1700

total 10000

I usually download the games which are multiplatform on pc and buy originals for xbox 30 and ps3.pc gaming is due to mods as for example ashes cricket on ps3 is unplayable but on pc with beta patches there is improvement.
