Sony sells 440,000 PS3 units during Thanksgiving week, PSP sales incre

Recommended Posts

Sony has revealed that the Playstation 3 has sold more than 440,000 units during the Thankgiving week with the PSP also seeing a significant sales increase. According to Patrick Seybold, SCEA’s Sr. Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media:

The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend. PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09.

In today’s economy, consumers are drawn to items that offer the most value for their money, making the PS3 an ideal choice for those who want a comprehensive gaming and entertainment system all in one package. Combine that with exclusive holiday bundles and an extensive software line-up, one that many analysts are calling the best in the industry, with titles such as Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, UNCHARTED 2:Among Thieves, and LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year, we have no doubt the momentum and demand will continue and consumers will prove that entertainment this holiday season is going to be defined by PlayStation.

Bloody hell. Some sickeningly impressive figures from Nintendo.

NINTENDO SELLS MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION HARDWARE UNITS DURING CRITICAL THANKSGIVING WEEK

More than 2.5 Video Game Systems Sold Every Second during Week as Value-Minded Holiday Shoppers Look to Nintendo

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 30, 2009 – Nintendo's internal tracking numbers show that the company sold more than 1.5 million Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ video game systems combined in the United States during Thanksgiving Week. That works out to more than 150 Nintendo systems sold every minute continuously for the week – or more than 2.5 every second.

Nintendo estimates that during the week:

* more than 550,000 Wii home consoles sold, demonstrating that consumers nationwide have responded to the new suggested retail price of $199.99.

* more than 1 million Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi portable systems sold. This number surpasses the all-time hand-held hardware sales record set by Game Boy™ Advance during Thanksgiving Week 2002.
