Dead Space 2

I don't remember another game where I've played with my weapon drawn and the right mouse button held so much with the exception of COD MW, MW2 and Black Ops

Of course, here it's cos I'm terribly scared that something undead will pop out and decapitate me. :fear:

Never used the assault rifle in the first game (made it through with the Line gun and Plasma Cutter alone) but it comes in mighty handy against those gollum-like Necromorphs running to grab you like you're the One Ring :P

The game's scare is very predictable, so yea it always fails to scare me....even if it pops in a monster closet trick.

Its a great ability to predict stuff and adapt quickly, but as far as enjoying games/movies go, I really feel bad for you guys who can predict stuff so easily. Must be really hard to keep you guys entertained through a suspense/thriller plot :P

Deadspace 2 so scary.... I cant play more than 30 minutes at a time :nerves:

I'm at the level where Dana asks Isaac to go in the church so that Tiedman can't find him. Then after going trhough some areas inside the church, there was a exit a through a hallway. I look left right  , no necromorphs :wOOtjumpy: so i ran for the door. :scarerun: and just when i was about to reach it, bang. something at the outside punched the door and i was shocked :O

u gotta be kiddin me :roflroll:

so easy not at all scary...

i dont even press and hold my right mouse button until and unless i see those necromorphs...

@praveer

I can predict stuff too, but that doesn't mean I find it less enjoyable. Unlike some people who prefer being 'smart', I find it easier to just go with the flow of a game and not consciously think about where the next monster is gonna pop up. Yeah, I like having fun :P Cheap scares are fine by me as long as there's a semblance of story progression.

It's like watching some thriller/action movie. Of course I know what'll happen next, but I like it all the same for that bit of fun it provides for those few hours while the movie's running.

Its great that people like me don't wet their pants by experiencing cheap horror, but rather require some bits of ingenuity in the horror/thriller elements to actually be scared/thrilled. :P

Nah, you should expect cheap scares from Dead Space 2. It's not horror per se, it's supposed to be creepy yet be a third person shooter. Complaining about the same is like going to a Transformers/Bayformers movie and complaining "There's so much mindless robot action" :P

Thats why I said it must be really hard to come across such a 'genuine' horror experience for you guys, while us lot get it even from games that aren't even designed around horror theme, Gears 1 for eg. All we need is a box of disposable pants :D

i'm finding the game scary enough. scares don't necessarily have to be a big monster popping out from behind you... even wandering down darkly lit corridors, with flickering lights and ambient sounds off in the distance can create a sense of dread . this is the one thing i feel dead space 2 does best... it nails the gloomy atmosphere of exploring a space station which was thriving not very long ago, but is now dead and abandoned because of the necropmorphs.

Genuine scary games usually have a weak main character, and the game doesn't throw enemies at you all the time.

Just the thought of someone or something waiting for you, is enough to freak you out.

Thief 3 Shalebridge level did this well, it had excellent sound effects and atmosphere.

+1 to that. All the familiar yet grotesquely twisted stuff (not going into further detail since it'd spoil some stuff you come across in-game) and the city being brought to a deserted standstill, it all gets to you over time.

You seem to have missed the fact that I don't consider monster closet tricks to be any kind of scare at all.

The thing is, in Dead Space even with all the atmosphere the game is so damn predictable that its pretty hard to get scared....you have this creepy dark corridor sparse amount of light and close to sound other than your own footsteps...yet its not scary at all simply cause you know what's gonna happen in worst case scenario. Either there will be a monster suddenly appearing out of nowhere supplemented with a loud noise or it'll enemies spawning right behind you, the game always seem to spawn the enemies in areas where you aren't looking. When a game follows a fixed pattern like this, its pretty damn hard to get scared.

I consider FEAR 1 and Condemned: Criminal Origins to be genuinely scary games, and the protagonist in these two games aren't really underpowered. As for games like Amnesia and Penumbra, well these two are horror game design 101.

ya game is not at all scary..you call this scary..? its fun action packed with few edge of the seat moments but that extreme scare factor is not there......

Ya Its better than DS1... :good:

Sound effect is awesome...My Plantronics Gamecom headphones makes it even better

Its actually good that couple of guys say they don't find it scary at all, gives you moral boost while walking down that half-lit corridor :P And its even more fun to play when you have couple of mates sitting next to you, preferably with even less jump-scare tolerance than you.
