dylanjosh Posted April 25, 2011 Report Share Posted April 25, 2011 Haven't they made it easier than the first part or maybe the sense of isolation that was there in the first games is somewhat lost? Agree on both counts. DS2 is overall more polished and varied. But DS1 scared the hell out of me sometimes. Never felt that in DS2. There was this one room in DS1, where they locked you in with a constant stream of Necromorphs from all sides and 1 Regenerator and made you stay in that room for seemed like an eternity. It was in some medical area. Holy sh*t. I pissed myself so much. I think I tried beating that room the first time, then didn't even touch the controller again for a couple of days. Didn't have such a moment in DS2 though. 2 other things that made DS1 better for me was that I didn't have any expectations at all so the game being so good surprised me and that there's the novelty factor - the second time around you've seen the necro's once already so they don't seem too scary. Got a nostalgic yet creepy feeling and walking for minutes through the lonely corridors sent a chill down the spine to the extent I couldn't take it. Will continue tonight! Awesome game. Story related spoilers above. Well best thing is you walk around said nostalgia-inducing place for quite a while before finally coming across Necros. Till then I was constantly thinking "This is it, they're gonna jump me at this corner!", looking behind me even in the bathroom where you find some dude-gone-crazy-now-dead's audio log. Got through the eye poke machine in the first attempt, but reloaded a previous save after the game just to see what you guys have been talking about. It is surely one of the most gruesome deaths in video game history. The ending leaves the franchise open for milking.
