Spec-Ops: The line

played through this game a few days ago and i thought it was fairly mediocre. there's absolutely nothing interesting about the gameplay/gunplay as such, the setting is pretty much wasted and the story... yea, when you want to evoke emotion from a player, the weakest way to do it is to put them into an on rails segment and then try to make them feel bad about it later. much of the buzz about this game was how you have to make difficult choices which really bring out the horrors of war and how there are no right/good ones. and then you have the big phosphorus moment that was completely unavoidable. weaksauce. also, the twist at the end was more of a cool story bro moment than anything else. my only question is this... were the 2 guys following you completely stupid? why would they continue to follow a man who clearly had more than a few screws loose?

i'll just say this... i played binary domain and this back to back. binary domain is just so much more fun. if you haven't played it, give it a shot. they both cost the same.

^^ the story is very confusing .... and without reading stuff from the internet or make your own interpretation about what happened, there's no way to understand it completely .... but as far as the quality of the game is considered, the thing is, you played the game after it has been hyped up and praised here .... I played it expecting it to be some kind of braindead military shooter like GR:FS (see what i did there  ), but I was completely surprised by the direction the game takes as it progresses .... also, towards the end when the game makes taunts like 'do you feel a hero yet ? ' , 'how many have you killed today?' etc , you tend to feel a bit awful, maybe a cheap tactic to draw emotion from players like you say, but I for one felt a bit uneasy about some of the stuff the game made you to do !

the only reason i played it is because people said that the story is great and it overrides all other flaws. the gameplay videos make the game look pretty lousy otherwise. and since the story didn't have any sort of impact on me, all i was left with was a game that is pretty lousy.

About couple of hours in and I'm enjoying it so far. The setting is great and the shooting feels good (no bullet sponge enemies). The movement feels a little wonky at times.

Taking cover is quite good.. you just zap into it ... :scarerun:

Taking cover is fine but I hate the controls for vaulting and melee. Left Shift? Why couldn't they just emulate most cover shooters and have spacebar take care of everything? I fumbled many times with space and shift until I got used to it.

This is the only shooter on PC which I play with 360 controller. The KB and mouse controls just plain suck.

taking cover is not that precise either .... sometimes it works, other times it doesn't .... and even running uses the same stupid animation of other UE games like GeOW ....

even i had trouble with melee many times when i would keep hitting spacebar lol :P

Finished the game yesterday. Have to say it surprised me in a good way. Never expected it to be this good mostly because of the generic demo. But the game really blew me away with it's narrative style, performances and specially the use of music. I don't know why people complain about game-play, it was literally same as GeOW. The environments in this game are really awesome, mixed with occasional sandstorm sequences it really made the game more believable. I never really felt that the game dragged at any place which is really preferable over a unnecessarily long game. I hope more shooters follow such an approach, rather than throwing the player from one country to another in the name of some stupid global war scenario.
