Hi guys. I need to buy a notebook for my wife's studies. However i m really tight on budget so can't afford to spend much. I want to know the cheapest option which is reliable as well as has some useful features. Plz suggest me the best ones for this. The price I want is around 12k. I have seen some Samsung notebooks at that price but am unsure abt its feedback by users. Thanks!!

There is a dealer on Techenclave selling this Asus EEE PC

Specs :

Intel Atom N280 (1.6 Ghz)

1 GB DDR2 Memory

160 GB HDD

10.1 inch LCD (1024x600 resolution); LED backlight

WiFi 802.11b/g/n @2.4GHz

Bluetooth2.1 + EDR

Webcam

6 Cell Battery with 8.5 hrs of backup

Win XP Home Edition

USB DVD RW (External)

Price : 18k + Shipping.

Get rid of the external USB drive and it would round off to 16 k. Cant get anything better than that under 20k.

No idea dude.

BTW if all she needs is basic office stuff then you can always get the cheap Samsung one and install a Linux distro on it. Put Open office in there with Firefox/Opera and it will do all that a windows desktop will and it will run better on those specs. Plus it will work out to be cheaper.

What are you looking to install? You can install Windows XP or a Linux Distro from a pen drive.

U mean i have to copy the iso of windows xp or linux distro on the cd to a pen drive to install it?

I was thinking of trying linux as u advised as it is free

Well if you have Windows XP CD you can install that from a pendrive. Its not too hard.

Check it out.

If you wanna go with Linux you need to pick a distro. Just google around. Thing to keep in mind about a Linux distro is if you need some extra programs later on they might not work with Linux if they are windows only. There are some apps that can emulate it and make it work but its a bit touchy. If you dont want anything to do with Windows in the future you can opt for Linux then.
