PEGI Ratings Show Forthcoming PSN Vib Ribbon

A new entry in the database of European ratings board PEGI has revealed that a downloadable version of NanaOn-Sha's cult classic PSOne music game Vib Ribbon is headed to Sony's PlayStation Network.

First released in 1999, the game allowed users to utilize their own music CDs to generate new levels for the game's scribbly vector rabbit to traverse. The title was Nanaon-Sha's next major development following its success with Parappa the Rapper and became a cult import hit in the U.S. following its release in Japan and Europe.

NanaOn-Sha head Masaya Matsuura hinted at a forthcoming re-release to Gamasutra at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show. Said Matsuura, "Many of my friends from the states have been asking me 'When are you going to make Vib Ribbon again?'" adding that the title would be "for new hardware, or downloadable. I really think I have to do that. It’s been many years since then, so I have to."

It's not yet clear how the PSN version might operate, but presumably could be altered to search a PS3 or PSP's stored MP3s in lieu of CD generation.

No similar ratings have been found in the U.S.'s ESRB database, nor have official announcements been made, so it's similarly unclear whether the PSN game will debut in North America or remain a European and Japanese exclusive.
