PS3 'Other OS' Thread

no ... u need to change the default operating system system in XBM menu to other OS .. . the other OS boots up automatically everytime u start ur PS3 .... to go back to the XBM menu, u have to hold down the power button itll ur PS3 beeps twice .... (is there anyother way????)

^^ YUP!! ... wifi dosnt work on the PS3 for now ..... on the whole its like any other linux operating system ....

confusing and frustrating - (strictly my opinion)

installation was a breeze though..... uve asked for the pics right ... taken them .... will post them at the earliest.

Appreciate that. I have not experienced YDL yet but I have used UBUNTU on PC. It was rather simple and light weight. One can pick up real quick.

^^ any linux OS ive installed on my PC hasnt lasted for more than 2 - 3 days .... ive tried redhat, SUSE, UBUNTU, knoppix, fedora ..... and found them all equally confusing .... i still cant figure out how to install an utility on linux :dance:

with any Debian based distro, you can use apt-get from the command line or synaptic if you prefer the GUI.

 

For Red Hat based distributions you can use yum

 

All modern distros will have a nice graphical frontend for package management.

Installed OpenSuse 10.3 a couple of weeks back. Having an alternative OS in PS3 is good (Posting from it currently). But it is damn slow, opening any application or already installed games is pretty slow. Only good for browsing as of now. That is the only thing I use a PC for so works ok for me.

Which is best OS for PS3 that has full support for all IMs and explorers??? and available online easily??

 

is it linux?? is yes where can I download it frm? I think linux wld be better coz i wld add ubuntu on it to make it much better....

 

 

and does this mean it replaces a PC??

^^ I wld hv read if i wanted to...I needed answer in one sentence...OS name and link or sm idea frm where to dwnld it. Thats it.

 

Yeah I knw its nt replacer, and I use PC basically for surfing, music and IM...and I think all these functions are very well performed by PS3. Get urself one. Its worth every penny.
