Kazekage Gaara
Hi guys, I've been reading up on video cards every once in a while since I wanna keep myself updated with whats going on these days in the GPU "scene". Anyways, I've come across many threads, posts, sales threads, etc., where I've noticed people really jump at grabbing a 8800GT. Whats so special about it ? Is it really that good ? I even read somewhere that these are hard to get these days, may be outta production or something. I don't know.... So...whats so special about this video card ? Should I grab one if I am getting one at a good price ? Here's my PC config, if someone needs it. Intel C2D 2.20 Ghz E4500. Intel 945GCNL mobo (max memory 2 GB DDR2). Kingston 2 GB DDR2 Ram. Shitty onboard vid card. Dell S2409 24" Full HD monitor. Can anyone enlighten me

Karooo
It has 112 shaders so thats extra horsepower for 8800GT, in graphically demanding games 8800GT can perform very well consistently due to this.
MarketTantrik
The 8800GT is based on nVidia's G92 core which offered superlative performance for its time. There are other cards based on the G92 core, but the 8800GT is extra special because its price/performance ratio was the best evah at that time. Hey MT, Given my config, if I said I wanted to buy a vid card for playing games like Starcraft II and other "small" games like Flock, Bionic Commando, TorchLight, Zombie Driver, etc., which card would you recommend ? I can play "high-end games" on my Xbox

I can play "high-end games" on my Xbox 360 The 8800GT is a terrific card for that for small games and will even allow you the occasional Crysis. Another good VFM card would be the Radeon 4850. john117
+1 to what mt said .. atm 8800gt and 4850 are best vfm cards to have, both are almost equal in performance and 8800 gt edges out 4850 only in physx enabled games. So for 4-5k both of these are a steal. john117
i have the 4850. it heats up like a furnace. remove the plastic casing covering the heatsink ... it soaks up dust and block heat dissipation , and i am speaking from experience owned a 4850 before upgrading to 4870.
