EA: PS3 and 360 games could get cheaper this year

Recommended Posts

According to a developer from EA, the prices of video games may actually DROP this year. Apparently, development costs will try to be covered with DLC instead of hiking up the price as was the case previously.

However, according to DeLong, prices of video games may drop in 2010 with more publishers relying on DLC to supplement development costs. This may be a brilliant idea as it certainly would help spur sales with the state of the economy. Its surprising this suggestion is coming from a publisher considering Bobby Kotick’s comments about raising the prices of video games.

Wow...and here I was thinking the price is going to come down as programmers have a feel for what the ps3 and the 360 can do,and hence dev time and hence development costs are going to come down. *sigh* I'd rather pay evewrything in one shot than, come back and wait for a part of the game to download.

@Devil:The Dlcs for pcs are being pirated...dont know about the xbox.

Now Can someone answer my query?

Are DLC's being pirated.....coz I haven't heard of that yet.....If that's the case....Has this decision come from this perspective as well?

no dlc's r nt pirated as far as i know...

i guess dis is an attempt to curb piracy...bcoz EA had already mentioned few weeks back dat they wud release dlc's n earn money even 4m da pirates...

They are being pirated for the 360.. left, right and center

But i don't understand how cutting the game's length and increasing dlcs will generate more revenue. The ones who pirate stuff are not going to suddenly *buy* dlcs :first:

Guys, more than piracy, how does this hit usage of second hand games? It seems to be a great way to monetize pre owned discs. There's also another angle to this - people probably factor in resale value when they buy new games, and this could be a negative there.

[assuming the DLCs form major portions of the game]

I'm more worried about how I'm going to fit DLCs + demos + media on my 13 GB drive
