m-JeRi
Hi... I got a APC BAckUPS RS 1000. Connected to it are my PC, PS3, Wii, Speakers, Ext HDD's, Routers, Phone etc.. It takes abt 45% load according to the APC software. Now the problem. At where i am living now during the evenings after 6.30 or so voltage drops. Our microwave, Water pump nothing will start. They may if there is enough voltage. My UPS is also like that now. If its already ON when voltage drops, it will go to battery and hibernate PC and later shut down. with the RED and GREEN LED's flashin alternatively. If the UPS is not ON and i try to start it the RED LED will flash denoting overload. Is this ok?. Can i set the UPS to work in lower voltages too using the software? is it recommended? I have 2 other UPS's. A Local 500Va and a 600Va WeP UPS. the Local one is also like the APC. But my Wep is more than happy to start. Any help will be appreciated. m-J
Don Karnage
Does it start hibernating PC immediately or after battery backup is finished. If its immediately then your battery needs charging / replacement. How low does your voltage go? APC software can be configured to cut in if voltage is less than 190V. I think that's the minimum you can configure, after that it will cut in. Don't know how safe it is, I configure mine to cut in below 200V.
m-JeRi
^^^ Well the pwer chute shows a progress bar that it goes into hibernate and then boom... i guess havent checked it thoroughly.. But once it did give me battery backup during power cut.. I only got this last saturday so just learning how it works.. will configure mine to be under 200 also.. god the cheap ones are so easy.. Don Karnage
APC software has an option that allows you to set how long you want to stay on the battery - you can opt to select 'Keep my PC on as long as possible'. Since this is a new unit the battery will not give a lot of backup, it has to go through a few charge / discharge cycles before it works at full capacity. Grimmjow
ahh man you cant believe how irritating it gets in summers and even monsoons. the voltage drops below 220, and my UPS switches to battery power, which gives me like 2 minutes to quit whatever im doing. in monsoon we have high voltages, above 270. i have to start the AC of my room to drop the voltage by around 10V, and work on the computer at the expense of freezing. APC 650VA btw.
m-JeRi
Well now i powered the devices connected to it one by one and now everything is ok.. ie. First UPS and then the other devices connected to it.. The UPS' default value for changing to battery is 205v. so no need to change that i guess Coz last night when checked the power voltage was like 180v.... This is ok then.. Don Karnage
^ Bad power situation there, the best you can hope for is that the UPS gives proper backup when its on the battery. @Grimmjow - I had a similar problem due to voltage fluctuations (2 min backup on a APC 650), I called the APC tech support and they replaced the unit with a refurbished one (with a new battery).
