EA DICE talks Mirror's Edge sequel

Recommended Posts

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is just around the corner and it's definitely keeping EA DICE busy as a bee. But after the launch and the stress has ebbed, could the possibility for a Mirror's Edge sequel finally shine through?

"I can't really comment on that," Exec. Producer Karl-Magnis Trodesson started to explain, "because we haven't offcially announced that we're working on it. But we were very happy and proud of Mirror's Edge one as a studio, so we are thinking about what we're going to do in the future."

While that seemed very up in the air, he did say something that could lend a spark of hope. "It's important for us to find other projects and other games that perhaps can turn into IP's and then later on franchises. Mirror's Edge was a big test for us and you're going to start seeing more of these in the near future."

That's very interesting to hear. And very good news for fans of the female-heroine Faith. Keep your fingers crossed. You may soon find her leaping across scaffolding and into the aironce more soon.

DO NOT WANT.

Either keep it first person or don't release a sequel at all. I'd rather just keep playing the time trials than a generic third person platformer.

yea..the first game was awesome. all haterz is DIE. jus make it a bit longer.

More than that, it needs a slightly better navigation system so you don't lose your way at full steam. I hated having to slow down and lose all the momentum to find my way ahead, especially with a chopper or armed gunmen on my a*s

Put a third person view for God's sake, or bundle an airsickness bag with special edition.

+1. I borrowed this game from Sam and couldn't complete even the 1st level due to motion sickness. :P

Felt a vomiting sensation.

Lol I couldn't even watch him play for 15 minutes at Milestone :P

Yeah the purist can stick to first person view if they want, give them a trophy or two, but at least put an option to change the view for the rest of us 'physically challenged'

Its a choice. I'd love Team Ninja to only put Master Ninja difficulty in next NG, but that'l only frustrate most of the players.

Adding an additional difficulty level in Ninja Gaiden isn't a game changer. Adding a third person perspective to Mirror's Edge is. It's a massive game changer.

A better analogy would be allowing a player to play Gran Turismo with Burnout physics. Sure, it's just an option, but it kills the purpose of playing Gran Turismo. Mirror's Edge is built to be played in first-person.

How would you like to play GT5 with only dashboard view? Sure its the perfect way to fully enjoy the realism and all, but is it practical?

That's where you've misunderstood Mirror's Edge. The first person perspective in Mirror's Edge isn't simply about a camera angle. The body physics and the way your body picks up momentum as you move, the way the camera bobs around when you run, the sense of speed as you pick up momentum - that is what sets Mirror's Edge apart. You cannot convey any of that in third person.

I don't want Mirror's Edge to stay in first person because that's how I like to play it, but because any other way just won't work.

No No please Mirrors Edge is great in first person gives you a sense of speed and satisfaction when you clear the tough sections, Third person camera will destroy this game.

Mirrors edge is one of my favourite games this gen played it a lot, trust me third person mode will DESTROY this wonderful game.

You can actually go in a "zone" as you call it a state of deep concentration, those speedruns especially the one on jacknife where you need to complete within 11 mins was so intense, I dont think this can be achieved by third person mode.

So the guy playing it in TP view will miss out on all the bells and whistles, but at least he'll be able to play it, right? I Wouldn't mind the generic feel of it, there aren't many pure platformers around on current-gen to begin with, most of them from Ubisoft and they babysit you all the way to finish line. I'd hate to let this one go again.

You can always press Start, go to Options, go to Gameplay sub-menu, select "Change View" and select "First Person View" :P

I remember we had same argument in NG2 thread where I said making an easy version would defeat the whole purpose of playing an NG game while others said but at least it'll let newcomers start with the game and later change it to normal difficulty once they're familiar with combos, enemies and bosses. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Doing platforming in first person view is not fun, ask anyone who has played final sections of Half Life.

The only thing that made the first Mirror's Edge so awesome (and that's a personal view... so don't flame me) was the first person view.

The gameplay felt very fresh because of that, and it was a completely different feeling to traverse the environment in that view. It's important for the franchise to stick to that.. a third person perspective will just dilute the whole experience.
