Ubisoft to combat piracy by requiring you to 'always be online'

Recommended Posts

If it works, I don't mind it. My PC is always connected to the internet anyways, so I'm not gonna boycott Ubi games simply on principle. They have a right to protect their games from piracy so if this works for them and for gamers, I'm all for it. I didn't mind EA's DRM either. That said, I don't think this little experiment is gonna work, so not only is no one else going to implement this, but Ubi will also drop it a year or so from now. And they've already planned for it by saying they can revert to the old method and allow offline gaming and saves if this system is scrapped.

My PC is always connected to internet too. One of my friend only buy original PC games but he doesn't have any internet connection. He don't have any consoles either and he loved AC, SC. Now, he have to stop playing ubi games just because of this retarded service.

Btw, I didn't tell him about this service yet.

The thing they mention about unlimited installs and not requiring the disc to play the game. Does that mean I can install the game and pass it on to my friend and he can do the same and pass it on, and all of us will be able to play the game off a single purchased copy?

Although both of you can login on the same account (probably not at the same time), Ubi controls the save. So I'm guessing you can only share MP.. can't use SP until the save game is freed up by the previous user (else it's an overwrite).

Or you could just point your users to the torrent sites where the patch would have been available from pre-release!

:scratchchin:

this could be a move by Ubi to push more players on to the console version which is more expensive.

Actually that would be retarded of them. Assuming someone buys a genuine copy then Ubi make more money off the PC version than they do on the console version. No MS or Sony to take a chunk out of the cost. Plus Digital download sales via Steam even cut out the retailers and the packaging costs.
