24" LCD Monitor - Buying Guide

Hi guys...

Need your help asap in choosing a monitor.

I'm looking to buy a monitor by this weekend if all things go as planned.

Budget 12-16K

My Requirements:

Screen Size: 23-24" inches

Panel Type: TN (Twisted Nematic), Glossy preferred

Peripherals to be connected: PC, Xbox360 and PS3

Main Usage: Console Gaming, Watching HiDef Anime/Movies/Shows

Secondary Usage: HTML/Css Coding and web-site designing, Adobe Photoshop and AdobeFlash (Text and Graphics)

Other: LED Backlit, Multiple Video Input connections and at least 3 year warranty with a decent dead pixel replacement policy.

I'm looking at Dell, Acer, AOC, ASUS, BenQ and ViewSonic (LG and Samsung too) for now. Any ideas?? Haven't set my mind on a particular model yet though.

Here is my short list: (With Current Prices)

Acer H235 (Lacks LED and unsure about after sales service)

AOC 2434PW (Any one know where i could possibly buy this from in Delhi/Gurgaon ?)

BenQ G2420 HD Rs.11000 (Lacks LED and Poor after sales) 10.5-11.5K

Dell G2410 (Lacks HDMI) Rs.15526.00

Dell ST2410 (Lacks LED) Rs.13225

Samsung P2350 (Lacks HDMI)

My Buy: Dell SP2309W (23") Rs.15300 (SMS Intl. Nehru Palace)

Here are my reasons:

~ Looks really good and has great ergonomics features (Tilt, Height and 360 degree swivel)

~ This review @ CNET

~ Went through nearly 200+ posts in the whirlpool forum.....Nothing beats hands on views of users.

A Big Thanks to all those who pitched in helping me decide. :D I love you all

Here is a pic

Here is a screen shot of my desktop (Loving the DXGA 2048 x 1152 resolution):

More Pictures coming soon :drunk:

P.S:A different question. My current PC is quite old and has on board GeForce 6150 graphics and 1GB ram. Will this be sufficient for normal usage on a Full HD monitor, no pc gaming just HD movies.

If no, then which is the cheapest Graphic Card that I can buy for the above mentioned needs? My Motherboard has one PCI Express x16 slot.

(My onboard gpu does support the monitors native resolution :threatenlumber:)

benQ g2420 hd. no led but all std inputs including hdmi.

I got it a month ago and its awesome. I mean really really good and vfm. Got it for 11k with 3 year warranty from a computer wholesale mkt (not nehru place) in delhi.

ahhh.. just saw benQ is not in your list. but still, do give this model a try if ya want to. I amvery happy with this one and for that price, its an amazing deal.

That was quick, thanks nemo, kunni and sharat....

I'm really keen on knowing as to your primary usage on the Dell and Benq monitors......

As i mentioned, will these be run ok when used for graphics(colours, contrast, gamut) and coding (readability of text)?

Anyone here who can tell me if spending extra for a LED Monitor is worth it in the long run?

Also the Pro's and Con's of LED vs. Normal Backlit Panels. (Simply point me in the right direction)

Thanks

native resolution on the monitor is 1920*1080

so the text is very much readable ... large screen = better viewing area...

Work Related

i design a lot of websites ... so for me flash and PSE work amazing with the resolution ....

my work space area is effectively increased like crazy making my work more efficient...

I am also a massive C/C++/.NET programmer... the workspace in VS is very nice large making it very easy to handle tools

C/C++ have a drawback as the font is BIG in it ... but not that it is not readable... because its SO huge :threatenlumber:

gaming related :

PC := i just got a copy of mass effect 2 just to test it on the system.. i have 6 gigs DDR2 and a 8800 GTS 512 G92... at the native resolution of 1920*1080 i am getting around 45~55 FPS which is pretty much playable.

Xbox 360 := Everything is complete running at 1080P so ihave no regrets...

PS3 := The main reason to buy the monitor was the PS3 and it serves its purpose at its best.

LED backlight would cost you more... BENQ has an LED series monitor...

Hmm.... Is that the current price for the Acer monitor?

Any back light bleeding?

How are the colours/contrast? Any visible ghosting while running Xbox 360?

@Nuuni: Interesting, no drop in quality you say
