BD 300 outsells HD-DVD version: 65%/35%

The stylistic Spartan battle film 300 has charged to the fastest sales start of any high-def video disc release yet, according to Warner Home Video. Consumers have purchased more than 250,000 copies of the film in the competing Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats since its release July 31. That far surpasses the previous hot seller, also from Warner, The Departed, which took three months to sell 100,000 copies.

So far, the Blu-ray Disc version of 300 is outselling the HD DVD version, 65% to 35%. According to Home Media Research, that mirrors the overall sales pattern this year (Jan-June), with Blu-ray accounting for 67% and 33% for HD DVD,

the hd dvd version had additional content BTW

IF MS had added the HD DVD in the 360 it would have won hands down... but Sony beat them to it.. but i don see the end of HD DVD happening anytime soon...

if MS added hd dvd to the 360 then

1)it would never have had a one year lead

2)the 360 would never have been 200$ cheaper than PS3

3)adding 1+2, the sales numbers would have been much much closer,so there is no way a format would have won.

Couldn't have put it better myself. MS knew that it would not be wise to put in a format which is not supported by the majority of the studios.

However, looking at the future they should have probably gone ahead with a next-gen format as the space crunch is here to stay for games. DVD9 ain't enough Billy boy, the sooner you realise it the better. Oh well, he can't do anything about it now; not without inviting a few dozen lawsuits.

the recent Price cut of the HD DVD drive will help the sales a lot.. the Drive is sold out almost everywhere

I prefer the idea of separate add-ons at thispoint of time. It gives M$ the flexibility of releasing a BluRay addon at some point in future even if they currently are on Toshiba's side of the fence.

Now if they would only start releasing games in the HD-DVD format ........................... (Blue Dragon anyone ? )

According to Home Media Research, during the first half of 2007 a total of 1.6M movies were sold on the Blu-ray format. Rival HD DVD sold less than half during the same time period, with a total of 795,000 movies sold. Since the launch of the formats, Blu-ray has amassed sales of 2.2M movies compared to just 1.5M on HD DVD (which includes data collected through July).

Disney is touting its November 6 Blu-ray DVD release of Pixar's Cars as the "High-Definition Event of the Year," with plans to include several "groundbreaking" interactive features on the disc. One of these will be a "Car Finder" game in which viewers "race the clock" to find one of 214 models of cars hidden throughout the movie. Other interactive features are described in a trailer posted online at http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/bluray. In a picture-in-picture feature called "Cine-Explore," director John Lasseter acts as a guide, describing how scenes of the movie were made while viewers watch them.
