Need Help in concealing AV cables in-wall...

Hi All...

Dont know if this is the correct section. but here goes.

Think some of you may have done or thought abt this.

I want to conceal few wires inside my wall. We are moving to a new home now

so its a great chance for me to do it. In wall or on the floor and later conceal

it with cement and marbel, I now have the choice to select any.

The connections to be concealed are..

1. DVI. the PC cabby is on the other side of the room.. and LCD is wall mounted.

2. the 5.1 Channel speaker connection. bascially the PC and the control pod of

my mighty z5500 will be placed on 2 opposite sides of the room.

3. Need to pass the Yellow-Red-White composite video connections too.

so basically the cabby is on one side or corner of the room, behind me and the LCD, speakers,

consoles etc will be on the other side. so need to get the above connections from one side to

another.

I hope i am clear. Any ideas.

The type of wires to be used, any extra precautions, the wall brackets to be used.

and where to get all the stuff?...

Any sort of ideas will be appreciated.

Got nothing to answer your questions mate, but since u r moving to a new place, try getting one of the usb port wale main boards. Saw it on tv and seems such a hassle free way to charge devices that charge via usb.

is ur house constructed or under construction ! coz its very helpful it it isint finished !

finalize the places u gona keep the cabby n lcd n then accordingly place the 5.1 speakers....

take one electrician with u n tell him the places u need to get wiring n all, use the walls for internal wiring....

get good wires for ur speakers n if they have holes for wall mounting behind them thn no need for brackets. n if u need brackets thn u can get them in a store which sells audio systems like yamaha or onkyo showrooms ! or u can get wooden plate like things fixed on walls n put ur speakers on tht !

if u cabby n lcd are in different rooms seperated by a wall on same side thn u can get one hole n pass ur wires for speakers and lcd thru tht !

hope its useful ! tell me more n i can help a lil' more !

m guessing this is what ur setup will be like ?

in the pic u can get the wires n all thru one simple hole if the setup is like the one in pic !

now making wiring for the speakers for the rear left n right the main complicated thing, like height n lenght of the wires !

@Free...

Yup..its under construction.. Soon the conduit pipes have to be laid in the top floor...so the planning.

All that are decided.

No i need the components and all...

the DVI/Composite/The 3 3.5MM wall plates are what i need.

Now need to know if the cables are atleast 10 meters long will there be any signal loss and all?

@Aft

Not yet decided. Will be 10 meters i think.

But dunno abt any signal loss issue.

Hmm I read that the VGA cable can have significant signal loss if its that long. I was wondering if the same was true for the DVI cable as well. I am guessing it should be a bit better cause its digital and not analog.

Guess some googling is required.

@aft just buy a dvi to hdmi converter and use a hdmi cable if your lcd has a hdmi port.

I just did that for mass effect 2 and it looks way better on a big screen.

I am guessing 15M long HDMI cable would be hard to get or pretty expensive.

DVI seems like the cheaper solution.

Fake edit. Hmm reading about it, it seems that HDMI does better over length than DVI. DVI seems to suffer from signal degradation at 10m or so. HDMI does a lot better.

How about using concealed PVC pipes in which normal electric cabling is housed??

You can add and remove cables in the future and if required you can house them all in a pipe which goes around the room with openings where required?

Duuno if i what i said makes sense :(

personal experience with ducting is that baad mein u face numerous issues in case u wanna add....change....etc etc

best option.....saamne Podhe laga do :(

ok, no seriously..... either a semi-transparent conduit available in hardware stores, or just put something in front. the thing is, just in case u ever wanna change a cable cause or damage/upgrade whtever, tight conduits generally available screw ur happiness.
