dante77
Avkash BC I never said its a company's laptop. I am still a student FFS. I don't where you got that. I am just talking about the consumer warranty. The vendor who sold me specifically warned against it. HP won't take my laptop (at least for speakers) of they find out anything about vlc. Edit: OMG not even once I mentioned its company's laptop and you guys

The Wolfy among us
What is the best alternative of VLC? also, is there really some kind of tracking software through which company can detect that I installed vlc or any other app after un-installing or is it just to scare us? Currently using Kmplayer, its good but I want vlc back tell me there is no such thing as tracking installed app You confused all of us by saying this. The Wolfy among us
You mean on PC? Yeah they can easily track using registry entries and other files. Dont risk it if your company is strictly against it. Try to use remote versions i.e. which just give you files and there is no need to install. And dude, VLC etc install loads of video drivers which make entries in loads of registries. Which company BTW? And after that ambar said this, and you didn't contradict him. Geez. egg man
Geez.. if it's a personal laptop then you can do whatever the hell you want. Last resort, you can always do a fresh windows install and there will be no history then. It's not possible to do a fresh install in Office laptop plus your activity is tracked everytime you connect to their network.

Shantz
lol I too thought you were talking about a company where you worked BTW, anyways I think the vendor is just lying or is a fool. HP wouldn't have any warranty voiding based on whether you installed vlc or something else.
dante77
Ah finally some good news, thanks even after a mixup I appreciate your reply guys. Although, my friend told me the same thing as my vendor and I googled it. Found that its true, hence I asked. PS: I don't know what I could've said. HP? brand? Service centre? instead of company: p
dante77
Read this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio-e-g-Windows-8/Is-VLC-media-player-is-supported-by-HP-Pavilion/td-p/192235/page/2 And this is one of many random pages, not just for hp but for dell, sony etc
The Wolfy among us
But this only is wrt to the speaker replacement right? don't exceed 200% on VLC. Hope and pray for a good speaker. And even if you have to claim warranty on a faulty speaker, do a fresh install of windows and hand it over to them.

Is there any way they can know that I installed VLC? VLC cannot damage your speakers to that extend, then the service center cannot exclusively blame VLC for the failing of the hardware. If the speaker drivers are so poor then the laptop deserves to be RMA'ed. Install VLC without any fears man, Cheers!
Big Boss
WTF panty n00b. Do whatever the hell you want except overclocking. Nothing can damage your hardware. And if any software damages your hardware, HP HAS to repair it, as it is their fault for creating a crappy hardware that can be easily damaged by hardware.
