KnackChap
I cannot fathom how WP7 fanboys keep harping about the OS today. I am not surprised at all it hasn't gained any marketshare. I doubt it will too. did u forget.... "MS makes the best software and nokia the best hardware. best phone evahhhh!!!!!!" posts.
Death Stryke
Whatsapp needs serious updates .. Notification appears and it takes around 5 second for the chat to display .. Lolz No smiley support .. The smileys that U use on normal msging are only available .. The image problem is solved after the update .. Atleast they are listening FB app has also got a update it seems .. But still can't access groups and pages U only get notifications , what's the use if U can't access it Facebook app is mindnumbing. What is more KLPD for Microsoft is that facebook didnt bother releasing an app for WP7 yet Microsoft had to make one for themselves. And inspite of the bad bad press they get because of the apps, they still dont choose to update it. They need to do everything brilliant today to make a mark. But no. It has Nokia's backing .... wonder what were they thinking....teaming up with MS exclusively ! Pfft. Nokia is no longer as important as Google and Apple. Their smartphones sell i'll give them that, but its to third world nations only in Asia and some in europe. But that will also eventually give way to Android in middle and lower segment and Android/iOS in higher segment. They are not at the mercy of Microsoft to make them relevant again. They had no choice .. Symbian is dead . Meego would have hardly gained anything Btw Nokia posted good sales of WinPho7 phones and a drop in Symbian phones a week back The investors are happy , rise in stock prices They sold 1 million phones in 3 months over almost all of europe and some asian countries. Still good compared to overall WP sales. did u forget.... "MS makes the best software and nokia the best hardware. best phone evahhhh!!!!!!" posts. Yeah, like ambar said, fanboys. In using WP u are stuck in a shitty Windows Live ecosystem which basically not many use today (i'm sure I speak for many here when I say that). Plus Bing search is terrible compared to google search. google search has better local results and its got nifty tricks for instant word translations and curency conversions. Honestly, today, there is no space WP7 fills. Why do i go for it? Al my friends are on gmail, whatsapp etc. Android and iOS do that best. They chat on gtalk, BBM, Android and iOS does it well. Wp doesn't do it. WP fanboys might argue its still in 2nd OS version and evn iOS and Android werent that good when they were 1-2 years old. But the point is, when iOS and Android were new, there was NO ONE else and no major juggernaut to compete. Not so much today when u have 2 fabulous ecosystems already and all your friends and colleagues in them, really no incentive for this. As much as WP would like to believe, I hardly think it'll make any dent maybe until Windows 8 comes out. Even then, the "windows" brand name commands no respect and brand perception. People always relate "windows" with "does it crash? hang?"..

avkash
If Nokia would have gone for Android then Samsung would have been sh*ting their pants, but for the fat cheque form MS to Nokia, Nokia needed that badly Really sad to see the demise of such a wonderful company. Death Stryke
Point is, many companies are now dying or going to die soon thanks to the smartphone revolution. Camera companies are losing money, Phone makers other than samsung are losing money. PC makers are also losing money. Such a shakeup is happening. Nokia stayed behind with Symbian it suffered. WP is not the medicine to their problems today.
avkash
yes but did they have an option, sure there was Android but then MS had a huge cheque, they went for it. Though I wish they had made an Android phone, withe Nokia cam and build quality, that would have been awesome.

Though I wish they had made an Android phone, withe Nokia cam and build quality, that would have been awesome. But the thing is Nokia left it's plus points behind .. Lumia series doesn't have the best cam .. Build quality is great though 5MP cam of 710 is slightly better than 3.2MP cam of my old phone Just the images taken at night are much better now

Zeehunter
And the cost doesn't help it either. Why shell 30k for Lumia 800? That's pathetic pricing by Nokia .. It's directly competing with Galaxy S2 800 should have been priced around 22k-23k ... 30k just doesn't justify the price when I am getting much more from S2 .. Pricing for 710 is bang on target .. 15k is good

Though I wish they had made an Android phone, withe Nokia cam and build quality, that would have been awesome. Er..MS paid just $250 million to Nokia for exclusivity. If that is the entire sum and no other benefits were given then that in its entirety is such a paltry sum that it did not even bring Nokia a blimp on their quarterly results. Second, I really don't get this pedestal on which the Nokia build quality is held. Which phone have they made which had great build quality before the N9 or the Lumia 800? They had the same plasticky tacky phones just like everyone else. They don't even have a RAZR to show for themselves.
MarketTantrik
Dont forget that a large part of the amount paid to Nokia will be cycled back to Microsoft in the form of licensing fees.
avkash
Nokia itself brought the demise upon themselves . They didn't innovate when they were at the top .. They took customers for granted , now they R paying off Nokia has always been a very innovative company, much ahead of contemporaries. But Apple just swung the game over it's head. Nokia believed that the better hardware will save it, it did for a while, but Apple had bigger plans. It had a whole ecosystem which was already in place through the iPod and iTunes. Nokia never understood that threat. Symbian was the top platform at that time, in fact even now the OS is fantastic, it is just the UI that is the issue. The OS is very low battery consuming and has fantastic multitasking. They just needed a new presentation layer, they just never got around creating that. They acted egoistically at times, which has hurt them bad. Er..MS paid just $250 million to Nokia for exclusivity. Almost every review site knows that there was a hefty sum paid. Also the plastic phones that you think have bad build quality have been dropped by me from 2 floors on hard concrete, nothing broke, a few scratches and still worked flawlessly, I have even dropped those in water bucket at times and still nothing goes awry. Good build does not mean good look. It just means good build.
Big Boss
They had the same plasticky tacky phones just like everyone else WTF? My 19k N82 might feel plasticy, but it survived so many drops that its not even funny. Most Nokia phones have awesome build quality, even the touch screen ones. Symbian was the top platform at that time, in fact even now the OS is fantastic, it is just the UI that is the issue. The OS is very low battery consuming and has fantastic multitasking This. And Nokia didn't even advertise that their Mobiles were smartphones. If you see ads for 6600, Nseries, 6630, 6680 etc, none of the ads mentioned Smartphones. Very few people in India knew that these devices could use MS Office, could play multiple media formats like avi, mpeg, mpg, ogg etc, could run emulators, could use multiple browsers at the same time etc. Not once was the multitasking highlighted, probably due to low RAM and Memory Full errors. But after N70, memory full errors were gone. But they never got around advertising the OS. See their ads and Sony Ericssons, you wont even know that Nokia ones were Smartphones and Sony had stupid javas. Good build does not mean good look. It just means good build. achilles
http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/26/2736132/microsoft-nokia-250-million-platform-support-payment @MT, I doubt they'd be talking platform royalty at this time, given that Nokia are using Metro exclusively. Edit, scratch that. They say they do but if I was Nokia I wouldn't have. @ Super Zombie & Avkash, yeah, build quality is just build quality. You can't compare the build quality based just on 'breakability' coz of the difference of materials used. Plastic inherently does not break if dropped. Glass does. Build quality is how well packed the stuff feels to touch, durability, how little niggles it has and how the materials used blend together to provide one seam less piece of hardware and physical appearance. The iPhone 2G, 3G & 3GS used a plastic back. No Nokia phone even comes close. Not even close.

Zeehunter
^^ My 5800 survived so many falls .. Still the touchscreen showed no problems Even 710 feels pretty tough but I won't test it I never used any cover for the fone While on the other hand my friends using S2 or an iPhone use so many different types of cover like soft , hard .. avkash
I do not expect iChillies to get it, but I would still say that phone like N70 had awesome build quality AND no cheap plastic, it even had a metal frame around the keypad. I have used that phone for over a year, until a f**ker stole it.
