MarketTantrik
Killed Meego, which could've been something It really could have. I've played around with the N9 quite a bit and I really, really like that phone, almost entirely due to the OS.
Zeehunter
It really could have. I've played around with the N9 quite a bit and I really, really like that phone, almost entirely due to the OS. No matter how good the OS is , the selling point will always be apps Check Winpho 7 .. It's staggering although there are 100,000 apps now While on the other side Meego doesn't even have basic apps like Whatsapp .. Forget games
Zeehunter
Nokia is slowly becoming Microsoft. Nokia maps is coming to all devices. No more exclusive stuff. Maps coming to all WP phones, apps coming to all WP phones I pity Nokia. Its now living at the mercy of Microsoft. Just some years back it was the biggest maker. But man they made a killing selling those Symbian stuff. Too bad people realized in 2007-8 what a load of crap that was. I thank Apple for reinventing the smartphone. And also for android to imrpove and take it further. Nokia was stumped hard and now they realize they dont have a worthy platform. Killed Meego, which could've been something Nokia maps is inbuilt in Winpho replacing Bing maps .. Even MS is integrating Nokia maps with the website version of Bing maps Surely Nokia is getting paid here I don't think so Nokia has any plans in releasing exclusive apps to other devices unless they were timed exclusives like the CNN app I saw the developer Summit there was no such announcement AFAIK Nokia wouldn't have made a fortune by selling Meego .. The platform just has no apps and Nokia doesn't have MS money to attract developers It was a dead investment done during Nokia was at it's height Symbian OS 3 is good .. Nokia should have spent more money in R&D of Symbian platform instead of wasting in Maemo and Meego If the SYMBIAN OS3 was launched in 2007 , Nokia wouldn't have been in this position Not to mention their love for resistive screens which killed them during the iPhone era when Samsung had Java phones with capacitive screens And the Android hit the last nail in their coffin They had production facilities in Europe which translated into costlier products , good now they are shifting all their production facilities to Asia .. They have a nice big plant in Chennai which just got money for expansion
Death Stryke
There is no money to be made making cheap 5000 rupee phones. Zilch...the companies make their profits selling high end stuff...the low end stuff is just to cater to a market thats all...a reason why companies like Nokia and BB are on their deathbed today. Blackberry is popular but it mainly sells the low margin curve phones which make no money. Recently a report came that BB is planning to shut or sell off its hardware division and it'll only become a software company. In my view, unless their WP sell well, nokia's best product is the maps which they can license. They don't have anything else other than the maps. Nothing of value to anyone. Their lumia phones were launched with tons of issues with wifi battery. And now Microsoft shafted them with WP8.

avkash
Lol. The whole world knows it. Elop is slowly killing Nokia. He is a trojan that MS sent to Nokia. Why can't they see it. It has to be one of the biggest backstabbing in the corporate history.

Zeehunter
Lol. The whole world knows it. Elop is slowly killing Nokia. He is a trojan that MS sent to Nokia. Why can't they see it. It has to be one of the biggest backstabbing in the corporate history. MS sent one of their Trojans in Amazon Kindle department too 2 months back .. Will the next Kindle support Windows 8 instead of Android Don't blame Elop , they were late to the smartphone race .. Meego would have sold even worse than Winpho 7 Atleast Winpho has more than 100,000 apps , meego wouldn't have made even quarter of those It would have been the same thing that BB is gonna face with OS 10 And btw the sales of Lumia devices are as predicted .. Lumia devices weren't predicted to pawn Androids and iOS It's the fall of Symbian devices at feature phone markets which is dominated by Chinese and Indian companies like ZTE , Micromaxx which created problems at Nokia When Nokia - MS deal was made , Elop said the real fruits of the partnership would be felt after the launch of Apollo and we are seeing it , Nokia maps would be the basic location service of Winpho .. And Microsoft still hasn't even shown end consumer features of WinPho 8 .. Joe said at the start of summit on 20th June that all the features going to be shown that day were only developer features and end consumer features would be shown prior to the launch at fall of 2012

avkash
If Nokia would have chosen Android then Samsung would have been sh*ting its pants. Elop destroyed everything that Nokia was good at, making it highly dependent on the success of the Lumia lineup. Now Nokia has to do everything it can to make Lumia succeed. They have no alternatives. A very bad situation for any company to be in.
dante77
why pureview doesn't have windows? its caries the same old symbian which almost every reviewer slashed. They should've just put the goddamn Windows in pureview and it might sell well.

Really, Nokia had nowhere left to go and at that time Windows Phone seemed fresh, different and had potential. 'What Nokia was good at' lost it's value right after the iPhone came about. Nokia decided not to care. And then Android really f**ked them up.

Samsung already had a strong hold in the Android market The situation at Nokia would actually be worse than the current situation They would have lost the billion of dollars that MS is paying them . Btw only Samsung is minting money by selling Android phones .. All the other OEMs like HTC , LG , Sony are at loss or just at profit The profit of HTC is decreasing as every quarter passes LG's phone segment is at loss , it's TV segment is keeping it at green
