memnom
@bulovski , yes i was meaning to do Ghosting. I would also like to stand corrected with the Power and Heat thingy (not being sarcastic by any means). @achilles , maybe i've been living under a rock mate, but trust me the troubles do exist, there is no denying it. There is a reason why its nor being made mainstream as LCD or the even better tech LED.

Bulovski
http://panasonic.co.in/web/productssolutio...lav/tv/plasmatv There's a panasonic store in ambi mall gurgaon where they have the largest tv i've seen - it's bigger than me. Shame that the jackasses at the store have only a dvd hooked up to it
AtheK
with 9 ft distance you are better of buying a 37" or a 32" tv, or the pic will not be nice.
memnom
@sumanth, 50" would be an overkill mate, go for 37 if your viewing is going to be 50% SD + 50 % HD and go for 40 if its 70%HD + 30% SD and only touch 42 if u are going to be >90%HD (Tatasky or something). Bulovski
9ft - go for a 42" HD plasma - like the viera G10. I think it was around the 60-65k mark a few months back. Ideally a smaller size at 9ft for the eyes - then a LCD. A Sony Bravia I think there are two main reasons why plasma is not pushed out more - the power consumption. It's higher, and the companies are all about green stuff. The second reason is the panel is heavy compared to a LCD / LED. I have a LCD and a plasma and there's a significant difference. A LED is a different class in terms of lightness and aesthetics. And don't ever trust your eyes in a shop with a plasma unless you fiddle with the controls - shopkeepers dim the brightness and contrast in a plasma. Because the plasma is cheaper they get much less commission hence they don't want to sell these as much compared to LCDs.

Mine would be >90% HD for sure. Games + BD.. no tv on this beauty. For normal tv i hve a shitty CRT which will be soon replaced if 9 feet is too less, i guess it is time to swap my room with my brother's which gives me 12 feet viewing distance
Noctis
9 ft is too less even for a 42" imo. 12 would be ok.
achilles
What you're referring to is ghosting - that's not burn-in. Burn-in is permanent. Ghosting is not. Only happens when you leave a static image for a long time. As for price - LCD are more expensive than plasmas, and although their technology has improved it still doesn't allow colour reproduction the way a plasma does. The tech cannot do it yet - as simple as that. A 42" panasonic full hd plasma is still cheaper than a 42" lcd and gives better picture. it's ironical cz LCD is a very very old tech. u'd think it would've matured by now @bulovski , yes i was meaning to do Ghosting. LED (local dimming) is too xpensive to consider right now. ^^ Definitely not a 50" at 9 feet. it actually depends. if your room is also wide enough it can be alright. but if space is cramped even a 32 can look big. 9ft - go for a 42" HD plasma - like the viera G10. G10 <3 the blacks man..the blacks. there are a few very simple reasons why LCDs are pushed out more (i dont think the margins are any lesser TBH).. they're cheaper to make and are aesthetically more pleasing. also, and this may be the most important reason.. their brightness looks far more appealing in the brightly lit stores. oh. and the G10 has become more expensive now

memnom
@Sumanth, if its going to be 90% HD then consider a Sony BX or NX 40 series in the grey or showroom (whichever u are comfortable with) at the outside 42" if u really want it, any more you would be doing this a lot of

Bulovski
yup - 42" is the upper high. Ideally settle for something around 36" mark. Go to a store which has a separate viewing area - stand 9 ft from the screen. Put hands on both sides of your eyes (because your room will be smaller) and see whether you are comfortable. tech_wreck
Viewing Distance Vs Screen Size That should help you a bit to decide on the right size. Personally, if you're mostly going to watch HD stuff, a 40/42 inch is good for a 9 feet viewing distance.

Also for 42" it might be still worth to try Plasma only or LCD is better option.

memnom
@sumanth, at 12 feet you would absolutely love 40 inches of LCD goodness, with 42" u will definitely fall in love with it but will take time getting used to, anything more u will find it a little hard even to like, make it 50 in no time u will hate it. for 9" 37 is optimum, but make it 40 as you are going to be 90% HD for 12" 40 is optimum, but make it 42 -ditto- 40" is a lot of premium space for HD, do go check out in the showroom and stand your desired distance apart and judge for yourself. Vercetti
42" is what u should go for... I have similar viewing distance although Now I have a bigger hall (but view from around 10-15 ft)...I am already sulking on why I didn't go for a 52" TV... Would have gone if I had the choice now:)
achilles
^^ yea. i normally sit at 9-10 feet and i have a 42. my room is quite wide though so there is no cramped feeling. infact i feel i cuda gone for a bigger one. but then 46 as a size is not common and 50 wuda been overkill. not to mention outta my budget
