New to MP shooters.. need tips

Never played mp gaming... but got BFBC2 ps3 just to experience this aspect of gaming that i've never dabbled with before. I tried playing with a few IVGians and random firangs, but just couldn't figure out what to do/ how to survive. Rather than embarassing myself and helping my team lose, i have been running away from games.

I really want to play BC2 online and have fun like most of u folks do.... Need as many tips as possible on how to go on about a mp shooter.... what are your strategies? How does a noob go around without getting pwned the moment he spawns at a random point in a map? Think back when u first started playin online... how did u start off??

I know the only way to learn is to keep playin moar and moar... but the moar i play the more i get discouraged :fear: please help guys..any help will be immensely appreciated.

you already know the answer. just keep playing and you will get better at it. everyone gets their asses kicked when they are newbies at a game... don't get discouraged by that. win or lose, how does it matter? it's just a game after all. try and have fun, even if you aren't doing well and things will get better as you learn.

Are they epic poetry in a*s kickery ?? Do they care about petty objectives or do they instead care about being one man army of pure PAIN ?

well i am no expert but if you have started with bfbc2 as your first mp game then it will be a hat-ke experience. Yes bfbc2 is a highly squad based and tactical shooter but what you gotta remember is that in bfbc2 killing peeps is not the only way you can contribute..

so if you are getting a kdr of epic phaliure then you can concentrate on other things, spotting, cover fire, staying in tank, turrets etc till you are comfy with the shooting mechanics. Rest the bfbc2 vets will explain you.

it is a very different kind of mp shooter. Why dont you try killzone 2 as well if you get chance ?? its a perfect mix of pure shooting and tactical game imo (havent played the rainbow games).

Hi Jiggy, nice to see you getting into MP. I personally am getting out of MP, but here are some of the things we looked at in my clan during my PC gaming days:

1. Basic gaming:

a. Movement - there are things that are common to most shooters. Strafing, circle strafing, jumping etc. These are generally applicable to all games with some variations. Make sure you are comfortable with executing these moves on your own, and know that enemies will try to do the same to you.

b. Advanced movement - how to take new ground, eg - bounding, use of cover, moving with team mates.

c. Aiming - make sure you are not spamming the fire button. Many new players panic and hit nothing at all even though they empty a full clip. Take your time to aim and actually hit the other player. Even if you die, you have increased the chances that a team mate will get the enemy.

d. Team work - always work with your team, keeping the objective in mind at all times. K/D ratios might be nice, but the best players know that K/D alone doesn't mean a thing. How you play the game matters a lot more. I've known really good players who never got too many kills because they specialized in providing sniper/machine gun cover to team mates.

2. Game specific:

a. Map knowledge - try to roam around as much as possible on the map, offline if possible. See what the other players are doing around you, and figure what why/how they are doing it. Try and memorize the map. From this work out good positions and how to get to them, the counters to these positions, and the possible danger points while getting to them.

b. Physics - get comfortable with what is possible within the game. This will not only help you do things, but also incorporate what the enemy might do when you make decisions in game.

c. Game rules - how does the game treat/judge encounters/lag. This one is especially important, unless you are playing with Indians. Under what conditions does the game award you a win, etc.

3. Strategy:

a. Overall - what role are you playing? This depends on the game, but generally, this could include overwatch, close support, assault, defence etc. Arm and position yourself to best execute your strategy. More detailed thoughts on how to achieve the objective also fit here, eg, do you want to rush?

b. Positioning - you should keep in mind where, how and under what conditions you are going to engage the enemy (or not). For example, at what distance will you engage, how open are you to getting hit from other directions, how much time you want to spend in a particular area, and whether you have a quick escape route.

c. Repositioning - always, always, reposition. Against good clans, your position is never an unknown for long. In casual gaming as well, good palyers are going to call you out (BC2 even has a report button - this can be really dangerous). This is especially important for snipers. Too many people decide to set up camp at one spot - this is not advisable unless you have an overwhelming advantage. If the other team is organized, they will take you down.

Most of these things come naturally to good players, and most people get good by playing a lot

EDIT use sound, reports and radar as well!

Don't bother about kdr - run around trying to know the maps. if you see anything moving shoot - screw teammates - if they are not helping you learn they deserve to die anyways.

kdr is overrated in strategic multiplayer. in tf2 kdr counts for squat - what matters is whether the objective got done or not. so don't be hesitant to die.

^^ will do gramps  will do whatever it takes to become good at this stuff

I actually started playing with dr33d yesterday and got pwned in 5 seconds of spawning each time... quit the game in shame.. Joined some firangs who unlike what i've heard were very cool and supportive. I was letting them down big time as well.. so just exited and played some sp action. :roflroll:

Good luck for your new adventures in multi-player

No need to limit yourself to the regular Indian gang everyday - sure, there are jerks online, but also a lot of funny, interesting people. The funniest set I've come across are Scots - their accents make even routine callouts funny :roflroll:

And don't think Bul is joking about your team having to help you learn - ask for what you need, and some people will try their best to get you into the game.

If you have the option to spectate, do that. You can learn a lot just by watching how the good players go about their business. Its what I used to when I really liked someone style of play in TF2.
