GeoHot: Don't update your PS3, I'll make custom firmware!

Recommended Posts

PS3 hacker GeoHot is understandably annoyed at Sony's decision to remove OtherOS support from the PS3. And in his very latest posting, he warns PS3 owners to not update and he will look into retaining OtherOS support. Likewise, he notes that he never wanted to touch Custom Firmware but if that's how Sony wants to play, then he will start looking into it. Let the games begin!

A note to people interested in the exploit and retaining OtherOS support, DO NOT UPDATE. When 3.21 comes out, I will look into a safe way of updating to retain OtherOS support, perhaps something like Hellcat's Recovery Flasher. I never intended to touch CFW, but if that's how you want to play...

Didnt Sony remove Other OS capability due to his so called Hack???

If yes then, Is he blaming sony for protecting their product

atleast 90-95% of people dont use the OtherOS feature

does geohot realise not updating to the imminent fw results in inability to sign into psn?? :O

Most ppl who own ps3s really dont care about his "hack"and they are all willing to pay $50 for each game. If they wanted to pirate games they would prolly get a modded xbox or just stick to the pc.

Not all are willing even though i am. Honestly, i want the PS3 to remain unhacked. I believe that would be one reason to make good quality games on that system.

political and moral issues aside, I'd really like to see how the kid cracks the Sony protection. I've read how the Cell architecture is built to prevent unsigned code and if this guy can crack it, it would be mind-blowing.
