kunallkw
I'm just replying to karoo's decoder argument. Just because your decoder unit can decode 5.1 doesn't mean your headphones have proper hardware to play each individual channel. u had wireless headphones, and till date there has been no confirmation of getting surround sound wirelessly that too from a single signal sending device. i know only Bose which has wireless home theatres as of now , but they are also , not completely wireless and can support a maximum of two channels per receiver. u just got succumbed to a gimmick , and taking out the hate on the real thing Yes I do:I didn't know he had the AXPros though. It is true that this method is being phased out in favor of Dolby Headphone. Before the trolls/fanboys completely ruin this - can someone tell us why 8 drivers less than a inch from your ears do not need processing? Or why this is in any way comparable to true surround delivered over speakers? I have searched online, can't get an explanation for this. Please read the article first, what is the scientific bit you have in mind? coming to your query , well the simplest explanation can be , a home theatre , has 5 audio channels and a crossover to distribute audio signals to each of the five channels and then route it to 5 speakers and bass unit . Tritton uses the exact same technology and has dedicated drivers for each channel . a home theatre comprises , of a source +pre-amplifier + amplfier +speakers , tritton uses the same . jDaMn
^^ ah, if what you say is true, u just saved me 10k Nooo... not my intention at all - I love the surround effect on headphones, highly recommend it - headphones are best for multiplayer gaming! Ne0
^^ btw, u said somewhere that a good stereo headphone with a good soundstage and bass, is decent enough for gaming , can you provide a link for the same ?

Yeah those wires going to individual speakers, they carry something else other than signals, its power supply. It'd be major PITA to keep charging each individual wireless speaker which keep pumping out 100W+ sound. No such hassle with headphones, and the 2.4Ghz radio channel has more than enough bandwidth to carry 7.1 signals.
kunallkw
no dude , those are double rca wires connecting the signal receiver to the speakers and double rca themselves carry power with them to fire passive speakers. basic idea is , amp --->via wires---->signal sender---->wireless----->signal receiver----->via wires -----> speaker why can't you understand sending 5.1 signals from a single unit, receiving and then decoding it is just not possible till now . and your model of headphones weren't even close when the hypothesis of wireless home theatres was being formulated
jDaMn
Tritton uses the exact same technology and has dedicated drivers for each channel .Yes, but those drivers are right next to your ears! Even if everything else is the same, HT don't have speakers crammed into a tiny space - also they are 5+1 rather than 4&4+0. Anyway, I'll try and find some info on this tonight to add to your points. ^^ btw, u said somewhere that a good stereo headphone with a good soundstage and bass, is decent enough for gaming , can you provide a link for the same ?I didn't say that, Superfrag did. This is what I have found till now: 1. Good headphones will be good for pretty much anything - music, movies, games, audio chat. 2. You don't NEED virtual surround, many games give good audio for positioning in two channels. 3. Virtual surround is nice though, and gives you some great effects, especially in horror games. 4. It is probably not as good as surround over speakers. Read this - hopefully we'll have a better source later tonight. 5. Some headphones angle the driver off center to provide a larger soundstage - but there are drawbacks to this as well. Bit of info - the Sennheiser HD555 was a very popular headphone at MLG events, before Astro started sponsoring MLG. Here's something for people who want a taste of 'virtual surround' - Virtual haircut. Use any normal headphones for this mp3 file. Please remember that this is actually a binaural recording, and thus is way better than anything either dolby headphone or multiple driver tech can put out. Shantz
Please read the article first, what is the scientific bit you have in mind? The basic school/college kid level knowledge bit that any kind of digital waveform approximation of an analog waveform is only an approximation and can never be an exact true representation of it. CarbonCore
why can't you understand sending 5.1 signals from a single unit, receiving and then decoding it is just not possible Lol decoding takes place in decoder unit not in headphones You need to do some more reading The FM radio you receive has extremely limited bandwidth compared to 2.4Ghz, yet it does stereo sound (2 channels) And I really feel for someone who'd spend 12-14k+ on a 'surround' headphone when you can get a kickass HT setup for that price which can actually do true directional surround sound, not to mention a sub that can vibrate the entire room instead of just earcups. kunallkw
by decoding i meant, decoding the wireless signals ... i'll courier you Taare Jameen Pe dvd .... for better understanding of words and FM does stereo for a reason and not 5.1 which is what was trying to explain the basic idea of getting surround sound headphones is , you donot want your folks to come and do this ---> and considering most us play late nights , window rattling bass and ceiling cracking treble , will only add more to the odds of getting these ---> Surround sound headphones are only a substitute of the real thing coz some people are not lucky enough have an under ground bunker where they can tear the hell apart with 4000W of sound

Its not about the money, I prefer headphones simply coz it just isn't possible to switch on HT and keep playing for hours without disturbing others in the house. And thats during the day, you crank up the volume in HT at night and your neighbours end up complaining , if you live in an apt especially, which have common walls. Unless you have a dedicated sound proof game room, headphones are always the preferred choice. So if we can get a 5.1 option in that, its even better

Try and audition one of these before you buy - no matter what others tell you, your own opinion is the only one that counts in the end. Post if you liked it EDIT Look I got my dolby headphone box to India through KMD for 4500 bucks. The money you save can be spent on excellent headphones rather than whatever TB or Tritton give you. Their new models are ALL based on dolby headphone. Again, try these if possible and decide for yourself. I highly recommend DH
CarbonCore
and FM does stereo for a reason and not 5.1 which is what was trying to explain *sigh* Surround sound headphones are only a substitute of the real thing coz some people are not lucky enough have an under ground bunker where they can tear the hell apart with 4000W of sound Thank you for getting my point @Neo, yeah surround headphones are only for convenience and not meant to replace real thing. But apparently, some people swear by it, saying not only does it sound as good as HT setup, but even surpasses it. Its like the premium HDMI cable argument. A 2.1 headphone with virtual surround will get you similar results, and will cost helluva lot less.

Lol I'd like to see you do it at 2 am. Actually I prefer my Tritton Axpro over the Z5500, I just use my Z5500 for games which support DTS 5.1. You dont even need a HT system if you have the Tritton Axpro. I've used it so much that its not working now, sent it for replacement
