Rig help needed..!!

Recommended Posts

Since no one bothered to check the PC Experts thread :O , decided to make a new one to get more visibility and answers.. :O

Here goes..

Hey guys,

Wanted to get a mid budget rig..

Need it for some casual gaming and 1080p playback with some PS thrown in..

Had a look at the PC Buying Guide on TE..

Went to the local market ( in Lucknow ) for the same.. Was surprised to see great price fluctuations and no love for AMD.. ..

Willing to spend max 25k..

Need:

Proccy + Mobo + RAM + HDD + Graphics Card + Cabinet + SMPS ..

Already have a Dell S2409W + Philips SPA5300 + KB/Mouse..

Was looking at the options available and found out the following are the only things available locally:

1) Proccy + Mobo:

a) AMD Phenom X2 555BE + Asus M7N68AM = 8100/-

b ) AMD Phenom X4 925 + Asus M4A78EM = 12200/-

c) AMD Phenom X2 555BE + Asus M4A78EM = 10300/-

d) Intel Core i3 + Intel DH55TC = 10700/-

e) Intel Core i5 750 + Intel DP55WB = 15700/-

2) RAM:

a) 2GB DDR 3 ( No Kingston/Corsair etc available ) Simmtronics/Irion = 3000/-

b ) 2GB DDR 2 ( Same companies ) = 2300/-

3) HDD:

a) 500GB WD/Seagate = 2350/-

4) Graphics Card:

a) ATI Radeon 5750 = 9000/-

b ) NVIDIA GT250 = 8850/-

c) ATI Radeon 4570 = 7350/-

5) Cabinet:

a) Any Normal Cabinet = 1.1-2k/

b ) CM ( Beginner model, vendor wasnt sure abt the model no. ) w/ SMPS (450W) = 4500/-

6) PSU (If taken extra):

a) FSP Saga 500W = 3100/-

b ) CM 450W = Upwards of 3.5k ( model no. unknown + will take a week to come after pre-ordering..)

c) FSP Epsilon 700W = 6100/-

d) FSP Everest 800W = 7500/-

Now my main dilemna is regarding Proccy + Mobo + Graphics Card + PSU..

Also should i go for DDR2 4GB ( 2*2)..??

Please help guys..!!

TIA..

Must you buy locally? Can't you get stuff shipped from vendors across the country?

Also, if you'd posted it in the Gaming PCs thread, you'd have gotten responses. :P

I kinda feel 2gb is like bare minimum. You should try to go with 3 or 4 these days if you can.

Correct... Go for 4Gb DDR3 bro. I am sure you'd get it for a good price from the vendors in TE... :rulez:

Thanks for replying.. :P

I don't mind going with 4GB DDR3.. but the fact is pricing is atrocious here..

And since I live in UP, any item ~ or >5k requires a Sales Tax Form something something, which frankly, none of the vendors/dealers give.. :( .. I had a real messy experience getting my PMP shipped.. Heck, even my Infamous Kit ( :threatenlumber: IVG ) was stuck in Delhi just because it didn't come with a needed Sales Tax something something.. Finally had to call up friends ( Yatin :giggle: ) .. and then he was able to ship it..

This is the main reason i wanna buy locally.. :| ..

Even on Ebay, many of the vendors DON'T ship to UP and WB precisely because of the Sales Tax Form something something.. :threatenlumber:

on the topic :

well if tax issues r that much fk up there then its better to get it locally

e) Intel Core i5 750 + Intel DP55WB = 15700/-

b ) 4GB DDR 2 ( Same companies ) = 2300/-

a) 500GB WD/Seagate = 2350/-

a) ATI Radeon 5750 = 9000/-(u can decide on this)

from my side rest is up to u :(

Why i5..??..

Is there any big loss in going for AMD Phenom X2/X4.. Some X2 BEs can be unlocked as Quad Cores also..

I just need for some RARE gaming + Mom's usual card games, Feeding Frenzy etc + 1080p playback. :threatenlumber:

lol that's not what I meant. You can't use DDR2 on LGA1156 mobos.

If 25k is your budget, I'd suggest holding off for a few months until you can expand it. :threatenlumber:

Oh.. lol.. Didn't notice the glitch.. :giggle: ..

I am leaning more towards AMD as i can get the proccy + mobo for a cheaper price.. The performance would be better than Intel i3 .. also i will be having more cash for the GPU.. Could get 5750 instead of 5670 or GT250.. :threatenlumber: ..

The i5 750 is better than the Phenom II X4 965. And you've listed a 3k difference between the i5 and 925. Whether the money you're saving is worth the performance you're giving up is up to you.

For the other parts, I'd suggest:

2GB DDR3 (try to get Corsairs from theitwares or somewhere, surely RAM won't be held up because of a sales tax thingy. I know Rahul ships to these places because I bought a CPU cooler from him and I'm in Kolkata, so..) You can add in another 2GB stick when you have the monies.

500GB HDD

5750 (The 5770 retails for 9.75k or so. See if you can find it)

Corsair VX450 (I've not heard good things about Cooler Master PSUs, and I've not heard anything at all about the other brands you've listed!)

Any cabinet that has two fans, or has slots for 2 fans.

When the newer AMD 6-core chips release won't the prices of existing components fall?

True bro.. But my rig is so FAIL that even Rakhi Sawant would reject it..!! :threatenlumber:

Hmm.. Can def try getting RAM frm ITwares or Lynx India.. Which one do you guys suggest..??.. But the main dilemma is about the Proccy n Mobo combo..

Getting good prices online.. But getting them shipped is like committing :threatenlumber:

I don't know about you, but my CM Extreme Power holds its own pretty well without problems in a power hungry 8800GTX equipped system.

Also, locally available brands for PSUs are FSP and Zebronics.. :threatenlumber: ..

If ur going for amd combination get this one

AMD Phenom x2 555 be-5k this model can be easily unlocked into x4,which will be equally to 965 be,i did unlocked my 555 be into x4,it has 99 percent chance to unlock into quad all u need is mobo with sb710/750 which has acc option,it is very easy unlock, dont need to be big overclocker

Biostar TA785G3 or Biostar TA785G3 HD should be around 4k with ddr3 ram support

corsair 2gb ddr3 1333mhz around 3k

psu corsair vx 450 w this one is must around 3.8k

cabinet coolmaster rc 690- 4.3k

wait for amd to reduce thier graphics card price and get 5850,dont buy 5770 or those 250 gtx

My rig's an E6750 running slightly overvolted and overclocked at 3.2ghz with an 8800GTX and 4gb of RAM with 2 SATA HDDs. On pretty much 24x7.

I don't know how much exactly it consumes, but it works fine with a CM Extreme Power 500W. I wanted a CM600w but they didn't have 600W CMs where I was shopping so I had to settle with this. This was more than 2 years ago. I guess this info should help you make a decision.
