Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Back to Ratchet and Clank, the title will take up a whopping 22 GB of a 25 GB Blu-ray disc. Even without the localizations, the title couldn't fit on a DVD9.

For that kind of data requirements, this game better have a shitload of levels. Otherwise, its just lazy asset compression.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Goes Gold, Demo Coming!

Hey everyone, I thought I would hop on and give you a quick update on where we’re at with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

I’m happy to report that we’ve gone gold! The game is finished and will hit a store near you on October 30. As some of you know, this is a week later than the Oct 23rd date stated previously, but the extra wait will be worth it. Insomniac has been hard at work squeezing every last detail, dance move and tool of destruction that we could fit onto a Blu-Ray disc (while leaving some room to fit Captain Qwark’s massive ego). This makes it the largest Ratchet & Clank experience ever.

I am also happy to report that we are wrapping up work on an updated and optimized version of our E3 demo (which is also available at Gamestop if you pre-order RCF) as I type this, and should be available via PSN in North America by October 11. The demo will be of Metropolis, the signature level in the Ratchet & Clank franchise. Well, it was the signature level… before we blew it to bits in this demo:)

WOW..WOW...WOW!!!,if R&C can look like this ,i cant imagine how Resistance 2 will look...INSOMNIAC FTUW!!! :D

recent platformers & action/adv games like r&c, crash, jax etc are fun to play because of their crazy weapons, interesting level designs, tongue in cheek humor, and good solid gameplay (thats not very repetitive) - so even though this game looks real pretty (almost at par with 2nd-gen animated movies), it would sell well if it were to be released on the ps2... basically it's a new R&C game, eye candy be damned!

ps: i was thinking of picking up the wii next month, and the ps3 later next year... but after reading up on the ps3 release calendar (and the $400/40gb ps3) i'm having second thoughts...

review code impressions by TTP(from gaf)

It's AWESOME from start to finish. 9/10. Period.

It's rather long (as usual with the franchise and with the Insomniac production) albeit a bit on the easy side. Took me around 12 hrs to finish it, but didn't max everything and I have A LOT of secrets to dig.

I can also confirm screen tearing is completely gone. Some frame rate drops, as already stated by the devs, but trust me you wont bother. Most wont even notice. The amount of stuff on screen is just overwhelming. The "Resistance engine" is definetly improved and I cant wait to see how Resistance 2 will look like considering they will probably stick with the 30fps thing. Some textures are incredible and there are a lot of reflection effects on metal/wet surfaces that you will stare for hours. And the space shooting sections... OMFG! Gameplay wise they are pretty straight forward (albeit you have to control the crosshairs and the ship indipendently, one stick each, which needs some getting used to) but graphically are truly amazing. Your retinas will burn if not disintegrate when you'll see them. Believe me.

Aliasing is almost gone, not as clean as the "doctored" pics but it's pretty close. Basically think Resistance IQ-wise, but with a tiny bit of "out of focus" filter on top of it. Hard to explain, and probably dependant on my screen overscanning, but you wont notice it after a while. It's very subtle and not disturbing at all. I guess it's some kind of cheap FSAA.

What else... hmmm... Ah, the ending... R&CF2 will be interesting to say the least ;)

Oh, and the Insomniac humor is still there. Strongly. I was ROTFL at some point during the cutscene that shows the first space strip of the duo. Cryogenic sleep...

BUY BUY BUY

Insomniac delivers again.

PS: finished the game in one loooong no-sleep session. Not because I have to review it tomorrow, but cos I just couldn't resist the temptation to see what's next. So addicting.
