Dredd
hi, i have a Indian ps3. I will be going to Tokyo soon and am planning to take the ps3 there. has anyone taken his/her indian ps3 to a region with 110v supply? 1) do i need to use the converter to step down to voltage 220v -> 110v or is it inbuilt in ps3? 2) i know that i will need to use the pin adapter (and i will carry it with me :-))

kunallkw
aren't the PS3s 110-240v compatible atleast the NTSC's are not sure about PAL though
landmarktiger
Which model PS3 do you have. I am pretty sure all slims were proven to be universal voltage even though officially on the PS3 it says they only support 110v or 220V and even the PS3 customer service people said they only supprt one voltage. People opened the PS3 and found the PSU to be universal. I think even the phat models are universal but not sure about the phat ones. You can just try running your console at 110V. If i am correct running a 220V console on 110 wont break it but running a 110V on 220 will break it.
lastAvenger
All Ps3's have universal voltage thing. No need for a converter

All Ps3's have universal voltage thing. No need for a converter so i have to only use the pin adapter i.e. converting the round 3 pin into flat 2 pin. is it? Somebody
^^ Isn't the voltage rating written somewhere near the power inlet on the PS3 ?

Dredd
^^ Isn't the voltage rating written somewhere near the power inlet on the PS3 ? yes. i will check it out today. but most probably it will be 220-240v written there. when i was in japan, i was planning to get a ps3 to india. there i checked the box - and it showed only 110v. so i didnt get one. @babloos just reconfirming. you mean you have a jap ps3 with 110v inlet and you are using it in india without any black smoke or burnt smell emanating from it? if YES, then the statement - "PS3's have universal voltage support" is TRUE. :-)

landmarktiger
^^ Isn't the voltage rating written somewhere near the power inlet on the PS3 ? As i posted above if you check on the box/console input area they will say that PS3s only support 110V or 220V(My PS3 slim says it only supports 220V on the console) - but people have opened up the PS3 and found the internal PSU to be universal voltage. Even if you ask sony customer support they will say it cant run on universal voltage but tests and PS3 dissecting have proven otherwise.
