achilles
i send missed call notifications over 2g by integrating tasker with android-notifier. Putting to silent in meetings profile is for doing it automatically without me having to touch anything on the phone (it integrates itself with my exchange calendar)..and then restoring normal mode after the meeting.just a matter of convenience.. some of the other things i use it for, i already listed in my previous post. I also use it for SMS based control (replaced where's my droid app, also augmented phone security in addition to wavesecure by taking secret pics on receiving SMS), turning off syncing and some other battery consuming things if the battery becomes low, also turns off syncing during night, get timezone and current time info and show it automatically for various cities where I have to talk to people, etc... huge jhol in my JPK rom..... incoming calls automatically disconnect in one ring... the SGS loses network and re-establishes network again help !! jigy pwnt! again

Death Stryke
^Violater, the SGS is sold under 4 carriers with 4 different names in the US. 2 of which are CDMA. I guess its best to get it from a non US country
Solitaire
gt-i9000 I don't think you will get that stock Galaxy S in the US, cos of the 4 variants that the carriers sell. SO like DS says, you'll have to buy it outside the US.
Shantz
The pricing of galaxy S is anyways as good in India as anywhere else in the world plus warranty (unless you are looking to get a used one, because then you can get carrier branded, almost new pieces for cheap in other countries over ebay/craigslist etc..like superfrag got his)
Superfrag
Voilater, here in the US, the model of selling phones work very differently. No manufacturer sells phones, its all directly through the carriers... and yeah, price wise stick to India.. unless you're in the US for quite some time and in a big city, then you scour craigslist like mad for a good local deal, like I did. Death Stryke
Another major annoyance which can be so easily rectified. My office uses a standard IMAP/POP3 email system. But the damn android email app on my sgs does not allow me to set which folders to use for inbox/sent/drafts etc. It creates a new folder called sent in my IMAP email. this is irritating as I can't see what emails I sent from my phone on my regular sent items folder on my PC. So i have 2 folders now one called "Sent" and another "Sent messages" which I have to keep track of. Also conversations go haywire when u use both phone and laptop in a conversation with one person. :-/ Very irritating. This issue has been raised a lot on the google forums but is yet to be addressed. Edited September 29, 2010 by Death Stryke
Superfrag
I forward all my emails and stuff to another gmail account I created, alongside my main gmail account.. Much easier and better that way!
Shantz
@DS: BTW if u go superfrag's route, you can also setup gmail such that all your outgoing mails look like they come from your original mail address and not gmail.. Superfrag
Yup, that's what I've done as well..
Death Stryke
Alright I did all this and even installed that script that polls my original email server every 8 mins instead of depending on gmail which has a mind of its own in this regard. Wil l use it for a day n see if any glitches appear in sending receiving and replying email ids. Hopefully no recepient will notice any change. Thanks Superfrag and shantanu. Death Stryke
What do you mean by GMail has a mind of its own? :S What I mean is, there is no setting to set the frequency of Gmail polling my original email server. I read on google forums that it sees the frequency of emails and decides the interval based on that. So if i rarely receive emails, then it will poll ur server maybe once in an hour or so. Due to this people have received mails almost 45-50 mins late. Which is completely unacceptable.
