A'ight guys. Planning to sell off my Omnia 2 & get an Android. Total budget 23-24k max. What all options do I have ?

Is any new phone coming soon in a month or so ? Can wait !

Thanks !

Just wait a month for Desire Z... Trust me!

Shouldn't the Desire Z and HD be out soon (October 25 in the UK)? Might have to stretch your budget a bit though looking at how most Android flagships are priced.

Desire Z is estimated around 25k and HD somewhere near 30k I guess!

Dude, do put up yur impressions time to time... Because, I'm really looking forward for Z to be my next phone...

Check my post earlier, I've posted Hands on impressions. Will post more impressions this weekend.

Isn't that ... i don't know... bad for you?

Btw you haven't rooted your vibrant yet? If you have, can you live with a non-rootable G2?

Its easy to unbrick a brick, if you know what you're doing. And the way it got bricked was so random, the phone was stable for like 2-3 weeks.. lol. I was actually laughing along with my roommate when it got bricked..

See my post, I've installed a custom ROM, so obviously its rooted.

But as things stand, unrooted 2.2 G2 JUST beats Rooted 2.1 Vibrant. Its so fast, smooth and snappy, its not even funny. Plus Chrome to Phone is bloody awesome, not to mention the updated GMail and other stuff. Even seeing my GPS lock on in 1-2 seconds when traveling gives me great pleasure.

And the G2 just launched yesterday. Root will be out very soon, teamdouche(Chris Soyars, Jeagoss, Cyanogen already have the G2) is working on it. The community support is going to be awesome too.

The thing is, the Galaxy S requires the lagfix/voodoo and custom stuff to make it awesome. The G2 doesn't. Its awesome out of the box.

@Shantz : From 2.2 onwards, the Market will sync all the apps(free and paid) with your Google Account, and the app settings as well? Or only the app and system settings?

Yes, all these things will be synced. But make sure to enable it in the settings.

So the only benefit you derived from rooting was to make the SGS snappier? Everything else can be done with a stock device?

I was referring to the "losing root on reboot" issue on the G2. i.e. you could root it but it'd "unroot" itself on rebooting. I guess someone will find a workaround for that soon.

FYI, this is exactly what is happening.

http://press.t-mobile.com/articles/t-mobile-G2-code-level-modifications

teamdouche has already rooted it, they're close to cracking the NAND(using JTag AFAIK), and they're waiting for HTC to release the source code as per GPL terms.

Rooting gave me few benefits : Making it snappier, OC, Screenshots, Modifying the theme, removing bloatware, wireless and wired tether, Titanium Backup.

Lets compare to above to the G2.

1) Its already snappy. Infact its smoother than a rooted and Voodoo'ed Vibrant.

2) There is a workaround for that, will dig for it.

3) Stock Android + ADW.Launcher looks awesome. Just need root for the battery mod. (Stock icon doesn't show %).

4) Hardly any bloatware. The only real bloatware for me is the Finance app, Photobucket and Amazon MP3, none of which interferes in the usage.

5) Will come soon. Don't need it as of now, luckily.

6) From 2.2 onwards, everything is backed up to your Google Account. So again, no need.

I have a feeling I'm missing out on few things that root gives me.. if I do remember, will post it.

Oh, I forgot, wireless tether requires root, tethering through USB doesn't. I was using EasyTether anyways, so no need of root there.

Just to note that maybe T-mobile has gimped it down otherwise in Froyo wireless tether is present in stock build.. I use it regularly with my nexus one...

Yup.. Wireless Tether should be present in the Desire Z. T-Mobile have removed it, so that people don't crowd their HSPA+ network downloading on their PC..

They've removed one more thing too ; I forget what.. and they've added a lot of Google Apps (Earth, Voice, Goggles, etc) but these additions are not bad. Just those three I mentioned are bloat.

Ever tried CM?

Not on my phone..only on devices that i have at work or on friends. Didn't really have an incentive to root..i was always happy with my battery life and performance and stock is anyways good enough for everything else..
