Solitaire
Any apps that let you use google maps offline? Any other app that lets you take navigation totally offline (pre-caching / downloading the maps ahead of time)?? With maps for India. theneurotoxin
latest version of Google Maps is capable of caching to your sd card.No idea as to how well it works. You will have to cough up money for most of the other options.
theneurotoxin
Nope.. Guess I'll start watching it. Watch it,it's only like the best sitcom ever.

Jigsaw
Anyone knows if the Galaxy 3 has froyo update already? Have a friend who wants to update...
El Tigre Chino
There are two leaked froyo roms for the G3. @sackboy: optimus one @maps dude : The caching is nicer in the latest update. It still has to download the data the first time though. Edit: these pretzels are making me thirsty Edited December 28, 2010 by EvoZ
Death Stryke
Do you guys know of any good car mounts for the sgs?
Solitaire
Brut maps? How exactly does Brut maps work? You have to replace the regular Google Maps on your phone right? Then do we need to use it and download on the move atleast once before it can be used for navigation? Can you actually use it to navigate offline or just view the maps offline? Is there any app (PC side) that can be used to manually cache the data for the region you want in the format that Brut Maps uses beforehand and then transfer it to the phone? I think the new Google Maps allows offline maps. Yeah 5.0 but I think that's more a stop gap solution that it switches to in the absence of any data connection and also guess it caches maps based on how often you visit areas rather than any sort of manual control. theneurotoxin
brut maps and google maps 5 work in the same fashion afaik.
Death Stryke
Replace or keep alongside. What you said is right. You need to use it at least once so that it's downloaded. What I did once was download the tiles of one place in all zoom levels via wifiwiring before going to the actual location. Solitaire
What about AndNav2 and can one use tiles from a place like this - http://wiki.andnav.org/index.php/List_Of_MapTilePacks - or maybe create map tiles for the places we want (using Mobile Atlas Creator or some such software) for use with Brut maps? Solitaire
Also, does turn by turn voice navigation still require you to be online for that even with Brut Maps? Is there any (even paid) app that lets you stock maps offline and have turn by turn navigation? (I know I'm wishing for a lot, but what I mean is something like Nokia's Ovi maps)
