The Android Thread

ADW.Launcher EX does have a hidden dockbar which is like the Zeam Launcher dock, and it has presets as well. Very useful stuff.

Yeah, I know. LP has 3 dockbars. Same thing but I just love that you can use a custom image for a dockbar. I don't think any other launcher has that.

We don't have a Tablet PC thread, so -

I'm waiting for some good 7 inch tablets to hit the market. Meanwhile, I've seen an "APAD" (cheap tablet running Android ~$150) on ebay. The problem is that this thing is on Android 1.6, whereas the current version (2.2?) is supposed to be much better. Is it better and is it possible to load/update Android on a tablet?

Any views on the APAD itself?

I've lined up around 200 apps that I'd like to install and try on the device when it comes.. any possibility I could list them in a post here and know how good/bad your experience with any of them has been or whether you use any of them?

And also whether any of those would clash with the others in the list.

So can I list them here or is a 200 line + post gonna annoy everyone and attract mod attention ? :fear:

:giggle: I plan every technology related experience well before it starts :lol:

My concern is more with the last question - i.e. I don't want to install a truckload of stuff that performs similar functions and then have something to go horribly wrong and mess up the data on the phone.

I might have installed and deleted around 500 apps/games and yet none of them messed up the data on the phone...

Almost every app is relative to ones requirements...

+1.

@Gaurav:

BTW, instead of asking in terms of list of apps, if you want to do any particular task then probably we can help you out in telling you which app is good acc. to us (but again for you, it might be different, because lack of a certain feature(s) in an app might be trivial for me but a deal breaker for you).

Also, android apps are sandboxed. They generally can't "mess up" your phone unless you are installing something that works on a shared db like calender/contacts etc but anyways those are also synced in cloud, so you are safe..If anything goes wrong, uninstalling the app would fix it for you

@DS

I'm not sure why you face so many FCs. I hardly face any. FC count on my phone must be around 5-10 times a month at max. Maybe it's not really FC that you are facing but ANR's because of SGS's lag or it could have something to do with your custom ROMs

^No i dont face them now. I used to face them in that com.google.process something. I think i told u about it via DM. And also in the official twitter app. But I cleared the dalvik cache and its fine now after many people recommended it. Seems to iron out a lot of those issues.

But i was referring to some weeds in those 200 apps list he made which might FC a lot. The well known ones in the top ten lists will surely work fine.

Yeah, surely a lot of those 200 apps will FC alot. I have a set 30 apps which over my office/entertainment//movies/music/VNC etc. U will delete a lot of those in time

Somehow it seems like that Galaxy S isn't treating you that well.... why would 200 apps force close a lot? :unsure: I don't plan to run them all at once in case that's what you think I mean. :lol:

Ok here goes (don't laugh at some really shitty ones I post :fear: )

^Gaurav, u and shantz both misunderstood my point. I meant, out of those 200, there will definitely be a few bad applications. Which you will delete over time after using them. This is what I meant

Besides, I'm quite happy with my SGS now. Custom fimrwares FTMFW :bigyellowgrin: @rithik :P :P

WOW, good list. Copied and pasted for future reference :D

:threatenlumber:

I spent 2 days reading up about those apps in the list and looking at vids of the live wallpapers before putting up a final alphabetized list. Some of those are in there just cos they have some cool sounds i'd like to use for the notification and ringtone pieces though.

2 WHOLE DAYS cos I just couldn't sleep after I won that damn phone. :rant:

And now that executive assistant in charge of shipping has gone on leave from christmas till jan 4th and the TC people emailed me last night saying "thank you for your patience"

Patience.. grrrr.. :fogug:

If she doesn't come to work and send me a mail on Jan 4th... :ranting:
