Yeah, im using a JPY based rom (Darky's rom v8.0) Its pretty stable, even with lagfix disabled. Doesn't matter if its European, it'll work fine here. You dont need to root these, they come prerooted. Just copy them into your internal SD card and install them via clockworkmod.

FYI, if you install a european rom, then you wont be able to update via kies after that as kies will only update on an Indian rom. Kies will not update your phone saying its for a different region. In any case, you dont need that POS kies anyway, so dont bother.

Actually, pure android phones also get the best and most stable custom ROMs because they have almost all of their source code integrated in the main Android tree (AOSP) by google.

:happydance:

Meh... There are apps by the dozen on the market that do that... BUT the main thing is that you don't even need these apps. Tasker already does it AND without pressing a button (My profile automatically turns this on when I connect my phone to car stereo. Can also use GPS etc to turn on only if I am moving etc if i want to)

Ok Ok, i have Tasker in my apps-to-buy list. I'm guessing I'll be spending weeks doing crazy stuff with Tasker :samui:

Btw is there any PC application that shows you what program an apk file is meant for without having to put it on an Android phone first? I know that you can change it to zip and open it to read the XML file for version number, but does it show you the app's name anywhere?

Tasker is THE app to buy. If someone asks me if there is any killer app or must buy app for android, I always reply with tasker. This app is reason alone for many to choose android.

For apk info, all the info you need resides in the manifest xml file (i.e. name, version, permissions it requires, hardware features it requires, etc). So you can do that. You can also use apktool by brut to do much more with apks..

btw if the app doesnt declare the hw features specifically, then also there are tools in the sdk to find out which hw features it would require..

first you have to clear the customs on your phone :P

Refer below:

^Thats ok. For a free phone, a little customs wont hurt.

And it won't hurt even if they charge me 10k on customs really. Still a steal for a 30k phone :P And if i may add, I can cover that amount with the stuff I've sold and put in the bank anyway ;) Or put that on Herr Hitler's tab with the "advance birthday gift" comment on it :naughty:

Wouldn't it come within a hundred dollars?

Sygic Aura itself is over 80$ I believe...

Oh yea hats off to the tasker guy.

@shantz seriously dude get a usb stick for your stereo. :P u connect it via 3.5mm cable to aux? How do you control your songs

Don't have a usb slot in my car stereo. My stereo came with the car, haven't found the inclination to change the HU. I had a kit earlier that the phone connected to, which further connected to the aux and it had a remote that i could put on my steering but that has gone bust now..Right now, I dont control the songs and anyways I keep it in always on/full brightness mode when connected to aux (through tasker again) and can press the on screen controls which are pretty big and easy to use considering the phone is very near to my steering anyways because of the car mount..

Even I needed something convenient to use with aux while in the car. Aux works fine but changing tracks can be a pain with the touch screen. So I put in an app from Cydia that changes the volume buttons to track changers for short presses.

It was funny for a while, I was changing the tracks by shaking. Some people reacted no so gently :P

I dunno, personally docks obstruct my field of vision. I tried those docks with those suction cups that attach to the windshield but got irritated after a while and threw it out.

So I redid the audio in my car recently. Put in a Pioneer HU with USB and iPod control built in along with JBL and boston acoustics speakers :D. Now I have to wire the HU to my steering wheel controls which only used to work with the stock system that came with the car. This additional wiring will cost 1k but steering wheel controls are the best. Easy to control and eyes stay on the road.

I seriously LOL at the concept of hearing your SMSes and emails while driving and that too with some weird accented voice. I get sh*t loads of lengthly emails from them yanks in the morning and personally dont want them read out when I might as well read them in peace when I get to my desk. And also dont want those crappy airtel and forward messages being read out. Just a chore and a distraction IMO when you need to conc on the road.

That is kinda true..but with your steering controls and tasker, I can think of certain ways to set it up so that tasker reads only the sender's names and deciding on your button press, read or not read the contents..how about that?
