Shantz
New Tron-themed homescreen on my Nexus S APNdroid button there kinda sticks out cos it's a widget, not an icon that I can change. You can change the icon for a widget too if you want
Solitaire
You can change the icon for a widget too if you want Yeah, but not without delving deeper. I'm doing this using ADWLauncher EX. Doesn't seem to be able to change that widget's icon.

Solitaire
http://www.samsungunpacked.com/ http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-to-be-announced-on-13th-of-february-19-01-2011/ We have been hearing rumors for quite some time that Samsung are working on the next generation Galaxy S smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S2, the latest thing we heard that Samsung would unveil it at MWC in February. It looks like we may have an official announcement from Samsung on the Galaxy S2 on the 13 of February, as they have just placed a teaser image on their Samsung Mobile site, with the date of the 13th of February. The Galaxy S2 is expected to have similar features to the Samsung produced Google Nexus S, including Android 2.3 Gingerbread and also NFC capabilities. The Galaxy S2 is also expected to have a dual core processor and a gyroscope, rather than the single core 1GHZ processor on the current Galaxy S smartphone. I guess this ends all hope of current Galaxy S owners getting any more official OS updates once this thing is out. Atleast looking at how they're dragging their feet with updates for Galaxy S variants on many US networks. Solitaire
Y'know that's bloody unfair I mean you spend 30k in something least give it a decent life cycle Well June/July 2010 was the release date for the SGS. It's had quite a good run what with the huge numbers sold and the first android phone that ever really became a byword for even non-techie people looking for a phone. Besides it'll still continue getting updates via people on XDA working on it. And since Google's current Nexus top-end is based on SGS hardware in a way, I'm guessing there'll be more stuff that trickles down (or gets ripped and added to the SGS) unofficially from Google's updates to the Nexus S. I may be wrong though.
Solitaire
Also this is why you shouldn't spend 30k to get a Samsung made phone
Death Stryke
Actually, only US variants are getting affected. Europe and Asia have officially got 2.2.1. And some tweet mentioned Europe getting GB also down the line.

Atleast looking at how they're dragging their feet with updates for Galaxy S variants on many US networks. I don't get it. Why should people even expect an update? Samsung is really selling phones, not developing a platform. For years we used to buy the best Nokia handset only to find there's a new one out a few weeks later with just a couple of tweaks. You kept the phone you bought, like you bought for as long as you kept it. Only Apple with the iPhone started providing feature updates to older handsets, atleast IIRC. And since Android is in no way aping the iPhone, why should people even expect the updates? Weird. Y'know that's bloody unfair I mean you spend 30k in something least give it a decent life cycle Look at it this way, or atleast the way phone companies want you to, you knew what you were getting at the time you bought it. You paid for what you thought was already there. Why should you get these updates for free? What are the phone companies gaining by providing this update? It takes up their resources and time. Without much return.

Why should you get these updates for free? What are the phone companies gaining by providing this update? It takes up their resources and time. Without much return. You're right in saying that the phone companies have nothing to gain monetarily from updating the OS on phones they've sold (unless of course the rumor of Samsung charging the carriers for updates is true). BUT: With phone's as powerful as they are these days, a lot of the frequent updates and stuff that we expect with PCs and consoles are expected here too. I do remember getting updates for Nokia even a year later, so that's untrue about them dropping support after the next model comes. It wasn't apple who still kept supporting the old phones. But then Nokia are evil in their own way, bastards gave newer phones free voice guided GPS navigation but limited it when it came to older models It was apple in a way that began any talk of charging for updates with that ipod touch update for which they so vilely charged their customers. Leaving aside this concept of charging, yeah it's known well enough that with things the way they are you can only expect THE latest updates for android with the latest Nexus model out at that time. So people who want that should consider buying that hardware even if it's a step behind bleeding edge tech. But that doesn't mean your hardware manufacturer can leave you high and dry and get away with it. The phone updates are pretty much part of maintenance. And in any case, six months isn't OLD at all even with newer hardware out. The SGS was consumed en-masse and Samsung shouldn't just abandon those people who put their money and trust in a Samsung device. Or any manufacturer for that matter - HTC, samsung, apple, nokia.. whatever. Sure, no one's saying "I want an exchange cos u released newer hardware" but they shouldn't take the customer for a ride by not providing them support. You don't see your graphics card manufacturer stopping all graphic driver updates for a card after six months cos it's outdated do you? vbhoj74
Both Samsung & Google is a f**king fail ! you spend 600$ and you cant get get to make proper voice calls, a primary feature of any phone. Its frustrating to have call drops 3-4 times a day and random reboots midst calls. What do we do of a phone that do not let us call ? I dont know if it is a hardware or a software issue, but whatever it is, they should have tested the basic functionality before releasing such a high end product in the market. Moreover, google has not given priority status to the issue, at least they have acknowledged it.

It isn't bro. But android phones from manufacturers (other than nexus phones from google) don't quite get the latest updates as soon as they happen. Neither Superfrag, nor me, both rocking a Nexus S are having this issue. Maybe you're just unlucky. Still looking forward to setting up SIP on my phone though, and I do have a Gizmo5 account. Any advantage of doing so? Free calls to any numbers in the US somehow? And how should I go about it? Would this do - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887131 ?
