My problem though is with the Launcher. Adw ex. Updated it but it sometimes slows down massively and is set right immediately upon force closing it. However the app that uses maximum cpu at that time is "system" according to OS monitor. Don't know why this happens.

pretty funny ! :chair:

I was using the stock keyb, that is why the problem, you already moved to 3rd party so thats okay, even I love swype now, its so easy compared to the stock keyb.

For others, you may not just notice them, they are pretty random, like the ring volume goes down automatically, the in call volume is allright. For the call drops I first thought it was airtel, then the phone started booting with the drops, and I remembered this bug I mentioned to you before I bought this crappy phone. I alsmost wanted to bang to phone to the wall when it does not let me have a decent conversation, and look what, samsung said they are releasing OTA update to fix the SMS issue, man the call drop issue should have been attended with top priority with so many users complaining about the same issue.

@Vineet: :console: I think Google has started treading down the wrong paths. Android may be becoming more and more popular day by day but I have started feeling that it has reached a tipping point and has infact started going down hill in various terms. Especially updating policies. Manufacturers taking their own sweet time to provide updates is ok but if Google itself is taking so much time to bring updates to their own phones (no 2.3 so far for nexus one) it really speaks volumes about them.

Starting with the nexus s, I can't even suggest Android to anyone any more. Most of the advantages that Android enjoyed last year have all been over come by Apple (with just the exception of notifications and I expect that also to be sorted out by iPhone 5 because of their webos notification devs hiring).

End Result: Android won't be a straight choice for me anymore when I am next up for a new phone. (Though a major factor that still prevents me from going iPhone route is the pre-requisite of a mac to develop for it)

Another issue that I'm facing: I checked wifi as never to sleep while plugged in, it still somehow manages to loose wifi in sleep mode, when I wake up the phone, I get the airtel data usage popup. It does not loose wifi instantly while going to sleep, but eventually does.

<Shameless Plug>

Try using this if it works for you (I made it for nexus one, not sure if it will do the work for you as well): Wi-Fi Keep Alive

Edit: Here is the appbrain link: http://www.appbrain.com/app/wi-fi-keep-alive/com.shantz.wifikeepalive A user there says that it worked for him on Nexus S as well, so you might be in luck

you will when your GF calls you up & says who the hell is Puja! :harhar:

Well what I'm saying is though I send messages to my mum and gf (The former thinks the latter doesn't exist and I'd have quite some explaining to do if she found out) within seconds of one another I've never had this message problem.

Try unlocking your bootloader and rooting it to see if it changes any of the issues you're having.

Just before this phone came i had to jailbreak a female friend's iphone 4 and "install all those really cuuuute games ya" (in her words). A gift from her "yoo yes yaay" brother. I had it for 2 days and after that I expected android to be quite unpolished and falling apart at the seams when I won this phone. but I must say, unlike the experience vbhoj74 is having, I've been more than just pleasantly surprised with it. I haven't had to "work" nearly as much as I thought I would have to to get android up and running. But if there's anything to crib about, I'd certainly say I don't like how the relatively powerful gpus in phones like the nexus s are going to waste idling in the absence of gpu accelerated uis. Google really needs to set this right and keep the updates coming. And grab the phone manufacturers and carriers by the balls when it comes to denying updates to non-nexus users.

Btw I read somewhere yesterday that the n1 gingerbread update is gonna be out in the next 2 weeks or so. If they're gonna delay updates to the previous gen nexus like this then I'd feel mighty insecure too once the next nexus phone shows up.

:roflroll: crossing fingers for you !

I feel good that I did not do it right away, else I would have thought it as a reasons for my worries. I'll wait few days to see if some OTA fixes it.

I never started with an expectation to make an effort to make the nexus up & running, I thought that was applicable to the non-nexus bread. Which is why I went through the pain to get a google phone and not a SGS. I was expecting that there might be non-availability of apps or bugs with them, never thought the firmware would be so buggy as to disallow us a normal phone experience. Moreover, you are lucky to not have faced it till now, but, remember thats its running the same firmware and the bug is still there on your phone ready to strike.

Check this google bug track on the issue http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13674

So many ppl have complained about it, should not bean isolated issue, maybe just a common combination of configuration or apps that triggers the bug. The priority of this ticket is now high, still there is no OTA for the same, google should have really outsourced the entire gingerbread thing to Indians, I'm sure we would have done a much better job.

So what now Vineet? eBay? Or keeping it?

SGS guys, new firmware JS3 is out (build date 5.1.2011) Just used doc's rom kitchen (romkitchen.org) to whip one up for me :D

Dont really have an option, my son & wife will kick me out of home if I even think of changing it. :nerves:

But I really hope google fixes it up for me soon, I can live with everything else but not drop calls and reboots. If google does not get a fix, I'll probably exchange it with wife's phone to make her see the reason. :giggle:

pyar kiya toh darna kya :naughty:

And get blackmailed saying they'll hold back funding for higher studies? No thanks, they can only know once the requisite fees are handed out :naughty:

@vbhoj74

In my case, yes it is love. :P

matter of fact, android phones are like girlfriends. You never know when why and which one will get cranky. Apple's phones are like wives. You live by their rules. :lol:

symbian ones are like hookers, you see all the sexy hardware is there and pay to have a good time but you end up with a sour taste in your mouth. :P

So ummm Superfrag how are you faring? Any issues? With the nexus s that is.

I haven't faced any issues so far. I love the stock keyboard, but maybe that's because my hands are smaller than average.

Around a week back I faced the reboot during call problem, but otherwise it's not affected me at all. *touchwood*

It's lived up to my expectations, and I'm happy with it. I just hope Google improves on their delivery time to Nexus users, Shantanu already covered that point.

I doubt I could use WP7 or iOS as a primary phone, simply because I love Widgets a bit too much, and Google Voice is extremely important for me, its one of the main reason I gave the iPhone 4 away to my cousin. Another thing it does better is Navigation+Places. And the new Vector maps are just awesome. Not to mention, I do a lot of downloading on my phone over 3G, from torrents & FTP, and T-Mobile is faster & cheaper than AT&T..

Only time will tell how Android/iOS/WP7 will do this year. I really hope Google fix the bugs fast, and the manufacturers do a better job of updating their phones.. Atleast till 2.3/2.4.. although I highly doubt it.

@Shantz: just curious, what advantages did Apple overcome in the last few months? Nothing much has changed between iOS 4.0 & 4.2, not drastic changes anyways..
