Gaurav,

I think all ur problem is with dual NAT that u r using on ur modem and router. If u really want to use both the devices, ensure that u r not running a router on the modem, let ur router do the pppoe authentication part.

next, try turning the firewall off in ur router settings n see if that helps.

For accessing any services u host inside ur network from a remote location with a dynamic IP u need to setup dyndns. It has a free service which maps ur changing IP to a host name, u then access ur services using host names.

The best way to register GV is taking help from a friend in US. u can then use the gv number to register sipgate.

I don't think airtel blocks sip on their broadband, ive used it for many days. Most of the time it's our own network issues we need to deal with.

I disabled SIP ALG on the router, still the same. I'll give X-Lite a shot.

EDIT: Tried X-Lite. It said "Registration Error 408 : Request Timeout" . I'm on Airtel Broadband by the way.

SIP registration happens on UDP/5060, keep the sip alg disabled, it never helps. SIP uses RTP which can be a bitchy thing sometimes, it results in no voice or one way traffic, all these firewall add ons were developed to overcome these issues, which actually adds to the problems. In any case u shud get the phone registered.

Thank you for the reply but if you've seen this part:

Google Voice meanwhile (even through a VPN) tells me that I need to have atleast one PHYSICAL phone number to proceed with registration when I enter the Gizmo5 number.

then are you saying that the only way is to add a friend's actual phone into my GV account and then remove it later after adding a SIPGate number plus the Gizmo5 number to it? :ko::(

And what reliable proxy / VPN do you use to access the registration pages of Google Voice (Without it showing the "not available in your country" message) and SIPGate from India?

I did not have a gizmo number/account, so I just used a friends actual phone number to register. why would vpn be involved in the registration process?

when I registered, they only used to sms the authorization code, now that they call, u have another way to do this. Get sipgate first, register it with xlite, call ur sipgate number from cell to check if everything is working, or ask a friend to call, I can help too, ensure u don't have voice issues. Then use sipgate to register gv.

Without a US based VPN or Proxy it will not even let you get to the registration page. Both GV and SIPGate.

Gizmo details registered fine via my BSNL wireless router (simply a wireless modem) but here it still fails after disabling the SPI firewall and NAT filtering.

With Gizmo I dont think you need any verification, read this link:

http://voipseeker.com/blog/2009/08/how-to-register-google-voice-out-of-us/

It has mentions of both gizmo and using a virtual number to register. Infact my 2nd GV number I registered using a virtual number.

I dont remember which proxy I used, but I downloaded a small software that sits on my XP and I can enable it whenever I need to mask my IP information.

The above link has it all. :-)

EDIT: you say that your SIP registration fail on BSNL when you work your modem in a router mode ?

I don't know in what mode it's working.... it's my dad's connection, can't fiddle with it. The BSNL modem is a wireless modem set up in the default fashion the BSNL people always do.

Do you use a dialer client on the PC to get the connection activated ? or its an always on connection, just works as it is ?

All connections - Airtel and BSNL - are always on. No dialers.

EDIT: Found the solution to my proxy worries atleast - using TOR with the TOR Browser bundle (Firefox, Tor, Vidalia) to route via a US proxy.

can you receive an SMS for me and give me the verification code alone? so that i can register with SIPgate and then remove ur no.?

So both are working in router mode. Dont fiddle around with NAT settings, if you accidently turn off NAT your internet access goes down as well, just turning off firewall irons out few issues at times.

@Gaurav: Go to ipkall.com. They will give you a free US number and redirect it to your SIP account. This way you can register without taking any friend's help. You can also continue using this number for your calls instead of using gizmo.

Also, you need proxy only for registering. Once registered, you can access it from anywhere in world.

@vbhoj: Google changed the rules sometime back and you can't register with a gizmo number anymore. For registering, you need a physical number and then later you can add a gizmo number as a "second" number.

Will try ipkall. It's supposed to give me a Washington based number or something right?

Query : Now it wants me to pick up a confirmation call and dial in two numbers. How do I do that? :(

My Airtel connection over that dual NAT config wifi still fails to register the SIP account :| How can I receive calls? It keeps saying registration timed out.

you will able to pick up the call only once you have a working sip connection. Why dont you remove the wifi from the equation and directly use your modem (at least for now to register for google voice)? I tested on my secondary net connection as well today (which is airtel) and it works fine there so there is no issue with the ISP. (Remember that it will not work on airtel mobile data connection).

Are you completely sure that you are doing the right settings for your sip? Can you mention the settings you are trying here? Also, a traffic dump through wireshark or similar would be nice.

Yeah it doesn't work on mobile data (vodafone here) :(

It's this dual router/modem config (with a subnet) that's bugging me. It's kind of like this - http://portforward.com/help/doublerouterportforwarding.htm . You mean use X-Lite on a PC connected directly to the modem for registering google voice and receiving the initial confirmation calls and such? But that wouldn't solve anything except help me register right? I'd still be stuck with non-working SIP even after that unless I can solve my connection conundrum :( If only that modem were itself a wireless modem. Damn beetel modem and netgear wireless >.<

How exactly should I make a dump file in wireshark?

My SIP settings:

Username: My username for gizmo5

Password: My password for gizmo5

Server: proxy01.sipphone.com

Set as primary account - checked

Display Name: Same as username

Outbound Proxy address: Left blank

Port: 5060

Transport Type: UDP

These settings work properly over the BSNL wireless modem.

My favorite things to look out for in Honeycomb

1) System Bar & Action Bar : Seems to replace notification drawer, but include a lot more stuff in it? The soft keys (Home, Menu, Search, Return) seem to lie there as well. Whereas Action Bar on the top seems to vary according to applications, and contain navigation options, widgets etc. I'll just quote the Action Bar part.

In every application, users have access to contextual options, navigation, widgets, or other types of content in an Action Bar, displayed at the top of the screen. The Action Bar is always present when an application is in use, although its content, theme, and other properties are managed by the application rather than the system. The Action Bar is another key touchpoint for users, especially with action items and an overflow dropdown menu, which users frequently access in a similar manner in most applications.

These two improvements/additions seem very interesting. I can see how nicely it'll work on tablets, and can't wait to see it personally, whether it works well. Wonder how they'll implement this for phones though. Merge the two? Or maybe the above is only for tablets.

2) Hardware Acceleration all over the OS : Finally, I say! :D

3) Updated widgets and standard apps : Bring Google Docs app please! I want offline support..

4) Better connectivity options : Hopefully I can use my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard with the new tablets or phone running on 3.0.

5) Better notifications :

Android 3.0 extends this capability, letting developers include richer content and control more properties. A new builder class lets developers quickly create notifications that include large and small icons, a title, a priority flag, and any properties already available in previous versions. Notifications can offer more types of content by building on the expanded set of UI Widgets that are now available as remote Views.

6) Better multimedia options : Hopefully Air Video for Android or some app along the same lines? Right now AndroStreamPro does the job well, but in an ugly sort of manner.
