I don't like the power control widgets implementation by Touchwiz, they take too much space. The CM6/CM7 implementation is great! With customization too..

I'm surprised there isn't a single decent AOSP based ROM for the SGS.. the userbase is certainly there. :/

The bathing cat widget is Dawwww.. Whats that Weather/News widget you're using there Gaurav?

I like that cat, reminds me of someone all the time. Kinda cute. And useful to know when your phone's getting too hot.

That's the default news + weather widget that you get on the Nexus S, even in the regular Launcher. I think the maker of that theme skinned it to look a bit different (usually it ain't transparent), just like a few of the other apps and the notification pulldown area look different too.

There is an aosp based rom. I just didn't use it. I don't use any power control widget. Just use the notification bar when required to change basic settings. I personally dislike too many widgets and fluff/bling. After a certain point it becomes unusable and chaotic. Plus very few alps have really good widgets. I think sound hound has a very good widget. Lightweight and does the job.

edit: Btw, what was the touchwizy part of the theme i posted? I didnot see any power control thing anywhere. The theme and basic UI structure is similar to any android device out there

Look at the 2nd phone snap/screenshot in the picture you posted and see those 4/5 options / toggle switches. Then look at the 4th screenshot I posted on the last page. That's the usual Power Control Widget on stock android as opposed to the spaced-out one you seem to have in the second picture.

Oh Thats Bad.. :console:

You know, once my Droid was giving me trouble a few months back.. It was rebooting every few minutes.. I removed the battery and kept it outside overnight (and prayed for it to recover) ..and next morning when I switched the phone on with battery and sim..it behaved well.. Till date no problem!!

I know it sounds lame, but try it.. when everything else fails who knows, it may work!

Seems like it's defective. :S

Either the battery is gone, or something wrong with the phone.

SGS/Nexus S users, if you do even a bit of music listening on your phones, you'll need to flash a kernel that includes the Voodoo sound improvements, download the Voodoo sound control app and see the improvements in the Sound Quality. Absolutely fantastic.

nice catch, saw it yesterday but didn't know how exactly to go about installing it.

1. Now with a bit more looking around, it looks like the only way is to flash a new kernel am i right? This one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936219

2. How do I go about the same? Any wiping / erasing / messing up apps involved? Does your phone feels snappier in any way after the small speed boost to 1.2Ghz?

3. And you've posted some issues you've had with that kernel on the XDA thread. Are they all solved or is there stuff I should be worried about?

4. Can I flash a later kernel over this or go back to stock / update to the next Modaco release after this without messing anything up on my phone / bricking it? Is there anything I should be wary of in that regard?

5. Any other such kernels with that sound driver + an even faster CPU boost?

1. Yup, that's the only one out with the Voodoo sound improvements. And CWM is the only way of flashing it.

2. Download the .zip file, which is tiny. Flash using CWM. Do a backup if you want to, no need to wipe or do anything of the sort. I've been using it since a few hours, so haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I don't like to use Set CPU unless a good governor is supported ; like interactive & smartass. Plus, you need to set the minimum speed to 800Mhz(no lower), which kinda defeats the purpose of SetCPU. I used to use it on the G2, my range was 200-1200, 200 when screen off and interactive governor. Can't do any of that right now, so no point.

3. My WiFi wasn't connecting at all. A router reboot fixed it. No idea why it was happening, but everything's working great now. Also, when rebooting, the phone automatically sets the brightness to max. Again, a non issue.

4. You can easily upgrade to MoDaCo r11 etc, but that'll reflash the stock kernel. Then you have to wait for this dev to update the kernel to work with the latest version. But Paul doesn't push out MoDaCo updates daily ; just when needed. So you shouldn't have an issue.

BUT, I don't know how well the kernel will behave with the theme you have installed. I've not flashed any theme to my NS. Ask in the kernel thread whether having one of the themes installed will mess it up. I really don't think there will be any issue, but better to be on the safe side.

5. There is that Trinity Kernel, but it's only purpose is OC. I really don't need an OC, but I want UV, which should help with battery life. I'm waiting for a OC/UV kernel, which does both well. Looks like the Netarchy dev plans to do that. Also, I do a LOT of music listening on my NS, so definitely prefer the Netarchy Kernel over the Trinity one.

Another thing to keep in mind, you can't really do a backup of a themed ROM, restoring from that won't work(theme dev has mentioned it.)

What I suggest is asking the Netarchy dev (or I'll ask if you don't have a XDA a/c) whether having one of the theme install will prevent you from flashing the kernel. If not, then just go ahead and flash it without doing a backup. It'll work great.

http://unregisteredkarma.blogspot.com/2010/12/guide-to-installing-adb-for-windows.html

Follow this guide, and instead of tools, it should be platform-tools.

In simple terms, download and unzip the sdk and add path of adb to your system :P (and yeah, there is no need to restart the pc. Just open a new command prompt)

This ADW Ex is annoying me no end again. Even Launcher Pro seems better despite being based on supposedly older code. ADW Ex keeps FCing like f**k half the time and slowing down for no reason at all. Has increased ten fold after I flashed the new Modaco r10, though it kinda reduced back when I was using 2.3.1 stock.
